    Thumbs up Colin James Signs

Taken from aertel Colin James is the latest player to
    sign for Galway United.

    The 21-year-old Dubliner joins Tony
Cousins' side from Bray Wanderers where
he made his eircom League debut as a
    teenager against Longford Town in
    October 2002.

    James, a versatile footballer, netted
one Premier Division goal for Bray in
2006 against Derry City on 4 August.

Galway are expected to announce several
more additions in the coming days.

Looks like Tony knows what he wants and is building a strong squad for next season. Cant wait for March and this will boost the season Ticket sales even more had a phone call from 1 of my team who has his 10 sold and is looking for more and 2 calls to dallas from people wondering about getting more to sell. A goalkeeper right sided and left sided utility players and another striker is what we need to complete the squad.

Anyone hear from looping anymore he should give Tony a shout before its too late.

Do you tihnk so? John Lester was about three stone overweight when last I saw him play, which was in July. Colm James scored one goal last season for Bray. If you keep signing players of that calibre, I can see you going straight back down, to be honest.

Looping's signed for Cobh, as far as I know. Or at least, he had a rgeed a deal, but UEFA blocked it, and I'm assuming it's going to go ahead for next season.

Stu you are definitely the worlds biggest wum . John Lester has lost over a stone in a month and is going full time.Colin James is a midfielder not a striker and yes Tony is building a strong squad of 20 with 4 more signings on the way in the next 2 weeks.

sduffy, you are definitely the world's biggest wum. Purely because my views don't agree with yours.

I'm not wumming, by the way - I honestly dno't see what there's to get excited about in the signing of a forward who scored one goal for Bray, another who scored one goal for Pat's and another player who, even if he's lost a stone, has at least another two to go? That's not gong to keep you in the Premier.

Colm James is a midfielder though Stu.
Most people have said JL will be a very good addition if fit.....which is exactly what Cousins has said.Tony has seen him play at Drogheda and knows his capabalities.
The lad from Pats isn't official.
I agree with you in a way....we do need to make one or two big signings like O Flynn. But with the likes of him Murphywe've just as good a strikeforce as UCD,Bray,Longford and Sligo.

    I don't question TC either.

The lads are right that we shouldn't go overboard about our signings, that - on the basis of last season - are probably no better than First Division quality. We're certainly not going to finish in the top half or anything like that.
Still, I think Tony knows what he is doing.

i suppose my point is that we need to build up the numbers and these are positives for a squad - i dont know much about the players but we need numbers right now and hopefully get some quality while we are at it

i was scepticle when we changed over to full time and decimated our squad - so numbers seem like the priority with full time status

obviously we are not going to get top players unless we pay over the odds to convince them to join a newly promoted team

as ever a small remark can be taken up a number of ways - context is very important - and assumptions can be easily made

Full-time training should be of huge benefit to James and Lester.
Armstrong appears to have limited potential, we shall see.

United, UCD, Longford, Bray and probably one of the others will be in a mini-league at the bottom of the table. Finishing 7th/8th is a reasonable aspiration and would be a decent achievement.

the aim next season is to stay in the division. the following season, when 3 go down, will be the vital one and we'll need to get real quality for that one.

therefore if this years squad can stay up their job is done and we should be in a better position to attract players of a better quality for 2008 season.

i agree with the posters above who reckon some of our signings are of 1st div standard (and i'm not convinced that they are much better than those released) but then again we only have to finish above 2 teams in the league to guarantee survival!

Considering We have only 1 striker your must not be very good if they are as good as ours.

    Sorry.

Our strikeforce is currently better than Sligo's!

from what i read ye will be playing a 4-3-3 next season. that will probably mean 2 wide men with 1 CF so ye will probably only have 2-3 out and out front men in yer squad.
