    Crowe in Ireland squad

16-11-2002 : Glen Crowe called up to the Ireland squad ...
Glen Crowe will link up with the Republic of Ireland squad for next Wednesday's international friendly in Greece. Crowe received his call up to the squad this evening by caretaker manager Don Givens. Crowe will arrive back in Ireland on Thursday morning before flying to Derry for the eircom league tie on Thursday evening at the Brandywell against the recently crowned FAI Cup holders. It is highly unlikely at this stage that the trip to the Brandywell will be moved.
This isnt the first time Crowe has received an international call-up. Mick McCarthy called Crowe up in May 2001 but despite impressing in training matches, Crowe never made the senior squad for those two World Cup qualifiers against Portugal and Estonia. Hopefully Glen wont have a wasted trip and will get the chance to prove himself at the highest level next Wednesday evening.

Hopefully he'll get on and get a goal, it would be great publicity for the league.

yeah but they were only called in when '10 well establised players backed out'

it is yeah of course, but the truth remains that the standard of an eL player still falls short of that required for high level international football

    Thumbs up

I don't think theres anything to complain about when saying the eL only gets call ups when loads of injuries.

Both players who have been called up would be many places down the list in their positions but its important they are not just ignored because they in the eL.

IMO its a good sign they called up ahead of players based in the english 2nd or (particularily) 3rd division.

I think its particularily interesting to see that Houlihan got a call up ahead of other english based midfielders in the irish u-21 squad.

Its only a friendly, but in our little world this is quite a thing. I reallty hope he can get a goal, as it seems very likely that he will start. However, maybe it would be better to have a more experienced team around him than the one that will start the match.

Thats the hope anyway. BTW, anyone in Dublin with an increased interest in the game because of Crowe should come down and watch the game in Dalymount on Wednesday, it'll be great craic.

Well the Shels fans were all going to watch it together in the bar at Tolka, but they´ve had to move to a phone box down the road after the flood

Bohs should be looking for about a million € for him if anyone is interested. i think it would take a very good offer to persuade crowe to leave- I mean he´s assured of european football here every year and the odd call up to the international squad, and I doubt if Bohs will leave him go to another club here for the forseeable future.

Crowe is being paid well by Bohs & I couldn't see him leaving for anywhere below the english 1st division.

It would seem Premiership clubs will not touch any player over maybe 23 at oldest either.

It wouldn't be surprised if he has a good game & maybe a bit of continental or scandanavian interest at the end of the season. With a forward reliying on good service Crowe could be up against it with a depleted squad so any reasonable performance will be laudable. Should be interesting to see how he fares next to the part-time converted forward Doherty.

I noticed Sky Sports & ch4 running Crowe stories (1st irish based player to be capped in 16 years) this morning too.

I'll be amazed if Houlihan still in the eL come the start of the 2003 season.
