Question Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Club

I noticed theres an ROISSC member/official in our midst & was wondering.....

Whats the deal with Michael Nugent? Isn't the ROISSC affiliated to the IFU?

How do the ROISSC feel about the treatment of Alan Hunter in the media?

If no official since be interested in any personal opinions......

    curious pete

Who is Alan Hunter anyway? I remember he was on telly during the Sky row and he claimed he was representing the Irish soccer fans.

I never heard of him before, and he certainly doesn't represent the fans I travel with when watching Ireland abroad.

    Short Answer:
    A Nutter.
Earlier this summer claimed to have 50k members by re-using an old travel club memebrship list from the early 1970's.
He either owns or works for Concorde Travel.
RTE like him cos he criticised the tv rights deal with Sky.
the Independent seems to like quoting him.
Sky like his cos he the querky paddy who likes a drunk.

Exactly, but the question remains - where the fook is Michael Nugent? Disappeared up his blueshirt @rse perhaps? There's a dire need for eL fans to organise some kind of Independant Supporters Association that actually represents and has proper support of it's members.....

Daxion, you sign yourself as the secretary. Is it just a travel club,
a group who get together socially and/or for matches, or do ye have specific aims?

Well said. AH saw his chance to grab his 15 minutes (weeks, anyone?) of fame and seized it with open arms never giving a seconds thought to the fact that all he was spouting was a load of incoherent rubbish.

Yeah NLU still kinda exists but is probably linked too muct to the Dublin Dons single issue to ever get many members.

An Independent eL supporters Club could easily work these days - sure with bleedin msg boards & the web theres a lot of common ground amoung fans already as no scrapos anymore.

btw the ROISSC seem to actually exist which is why i was wondering the media using Alan 'skitzo' Hunter & his non-existant mandate.

Well especially with all the supporters clubs that are knocking around as well - offer affliated membership to the supporters clubs, as well as full membership to individuals, and we'd have a pretty strong, transparent organisation....

Daxion can speak for himself (but hey, private message, I'm still bitter about the 83 Cup Final!).

However the ROISSC definately exists and is not just a travel club. Clubs were started almost simultaneously in Dublin and London in the early 80's - in a time before Jack, when away supporters were measured in hundreds rather than thousands.

Whenever you meet a member of one of the clubs on an away trip, you're sure to enjoy a good time.

The Dublin club used to meet mothly in the Workingmans Club (probably still do) and the London branch in Kilburn.

Unfortunately there is no branch in Australia. Hmmm maybe I'll start one.

    RISSC

When I visited Oz in 1991 there was a branch there run by a bloke called Louis Carey (reckoned his uncle was Johnny). They used to meet at home boozer called the (Lord) Palmerston in Sydney. Advert was in the local Irish community newspaper. Don't know if still around, but I met some fans in Japan, and I do still think that it is running.
