    ScreenClick

A company called screenclick have been renting out DVD movies by post at 1c per rental this last while as a trial to see if they can drum up custom.

You register on their site, pick a "wishlist" of movies you want to see and they post them to you one at a time and you can hang onto the film as long as you like.

They go subscription in January (15 bucks a month) and you've to call a dublin phone number to opt out of the service and return all movies by december 20th.

Here's the rub... their phoneline is a dead end. I've been calling it for a week and all I get is "the customers messagebox is full".

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone else manage to cancel?

The service isn't worth it by the way. There's no saving in it as, with the best will and planning in the world -it still takes about a week to turn a film around so you're highly unlikely to top four rentals per month if you even manage that.

I'd say if I was a paraplegic movie buff who lived miles from the nearest Xtravision and that particular Xtravision had no wheelchair access ramp I might find the service uselful -but as it is -no thanks.

Theres another service MovieStar which i think is 9.99 a month.

Might try in the new year. Pays for itself if only use twice a month & no crappy late fees.

It says from 9.99 a month. I'm alway's wary of the "from" bit...

FYI, Moviestar is owned by the guys that run the "you have won [massive award]" postal scratch card type games. I wouldn't buy one of their products in a fit.

afaik, you can opt out of it online by signing into your a/c and opting out?

Hopefully you're right and that's that Sligoman.

I did that. I must try and log in again though and see if the a/c is terminated.

I managed to leave a message on their phone as well in the end.

Screen Click have been around for about 3 years now and have always been subscription, you're probably just on a free trial or promotion. I was with them for over 2 years but left about 3 months ago. They were the first online rental service in Ireland, but they've now fallen behind the other two big time. I left because they hadn't updated their movie library in about 6 months and new releases were few and far between. Plus they're still the most expensive service. Moviestar are the cheapest and Busy Bee DVD is about the same as Screenclick, but way better library.

I'm with Moviestar now and it's a top service. No complaints at all. I'm on the 3 DVDs at a time package for €18.99 which is great value. Whatever else they're stuck in doesn't bother me.

Or just send an email to support@screenclick.com - They're usually pretty good to reply. I'd say they're struggling for customers though since the other 2 came along. They should be dropping their price and updating their service. They're backed by ilovefilm.com which is one of the biggest in the market, so it doesn't make sense that their offering is so poor
