    Gabriel Egan Radio commentary 1988

The commentary does the goal and the moment justice. The audio file is on the RTE website

Noel King does the co-commentary .. nearly puts the kiss of death on our chances by saying there is absolutely no chance England will score, moments before Lineker nearly scores in the last minute. What a roar at the end .. its seemed to go on for years ...

If you saw that footage on some decent quality format, you could actually see some of the German police celebrating behind the goal.

well .. always thought Egan's commentary had more emotion than Hamilton "and Houghton 1-0"... and thats why I stuck the two together. That was the best file that I had ... and youtube quality is only so good, I'm afraid.

Saw the match again for the first time since the game itself recently and it was mildly depressing watching it with Hamilton commentating .. I had such a different memory as a 15 year old in front of the tv when i should have been cramming for my Inter cert exams the following day.

Love the way the pitch of his voice changes .. like a horse racing commentator .. and the moment as the ball loops over Shilton and then Egan explodes forgetting for a moment that he is on live radio. And Noel King's laugh in the background. Classic moment.
