In honour of his longevity, I propose that he not get a G Tranmere b.1877 tag on the thread title lest he feel his age.
Famously saved a penalty from Michael Owen in his Premier League debut

You can't spell failure without FAI
Have to say when I was reading it back it was a pretty good effort for what must have been a fairly niche market. In the edition I found they were fairly optimistic about a young O'Shea lad from Waterford who had recently moved over to Manchester United.
In talks with Tranmere about a new contract. Though he's also their goalkeeping coach, so it may be a non-playing contract or an emergency option only role
Played in a 2-0 League Cup defeat for Tranmere against Leicester tonight, 23 years since playing in a 2-1 League Cup final defeat for Tranmere against Leicester
Got himself sent off in the 102nd minute of what might end up being his last senior football appearance in the FA Cup today. 42 years old now and fulfilling the backup keeper role at Tranmere. Must be one of the only remaining players in English football who is actually older than me.
Joe turns 44 today. And is somehow still the second choice goalkeeper at Tranmere. As far as I can tell, he's now the oldest active player in the top four divisions of English football by some distance.
The second post on this thread is someone saying we should be looking at younger keepers than him. The post in question is from 2006!

He was our goalkeeper in the Under 16 European Championships that we won in Scotland in 1998.
Also in that squad were John O'Shea, Andy Reid, Liam Miller, Jonathan Douglas and Jim Goodwin.
Imagine the, dedication, stickability, love of the game required to stay playing that long.
I wonder if he does some coaching, because he surely has gathered a wealth of knowledge about the game down through all of these years !
Yes he's a player/goalkeeping coach at Tranmere.
Hopefully he at least gets a run out in the EFL trophy this season.
