shligo manager talking about Raf Cretaro

    From http://www.sligoweekender.ie/news/st...1017&cat=sport
Tubbercurry’s Rafael Cretaro, who excelled for Galway United in the eircom League First Division this year, could return to The Showgrounds.
The bubbly competitor – who can operate as a full-back or a winger – was part of the Sligo Rovers team that swooped for last year’s eircom League First Division title.
He is out of contract at Galway United but is due to discuss his future at the club this week. “He [Rafael Cretaro] is quick. He needs a lot of coaching but I think he is somebody that I could work with. He is a good, positive, upbeat person. He has obviously done well at Galway United.”
“The boy is very popular but the reason we are doing this is not to win points for the sheer fact that we are losing out on Conor [O’Grady] because I wouldn’t be taken seriously.”

It was always going to be the case if we got Promoted that more players would be released. Its very sad to see 3 players who were totally committed to the cause being let go and I wish all 3 well I guess Athlone could be getting a few more ex Galway Players.

Thanks lads and your always welcome in Terryland.

i thought raf left sligo as he didnt want to go full time - so is he likely to leave again? frawley doesnt want to either apparently.

thought dowd should have stayed in the squad - depends on who is coming in

this full time has its mixed blessings - all eggs in one basket

thought the same myself Dowd was fairly impressive towards the end of the season. Tony must have a striker or two in mind. Murphy will have to deliver next season, full time should benifit him.

Nothing on web site about going full time or players being released. But based on contributors inputs would not object to Nigel or Mixie being released. But I would really like to see Dowdy being kept on. His run in the team coincided with out excellent finish to the season. He chipped in with a few goals but his workrate, never say die attitude and his ability to upset centre halfs was a joy to watch. I was in Ballybofey a couple of months ago and it was one of the most selfless performances I had seen all year. He made the trip from Tuam worth it. He was brillaint.

I also hope we hold onto Foley who got better and better as the season progressed. Is Billy Cleary going to leave/retire now that we are in the Premier? Thought I hard this somewhere.

I disagree about Dowdy it has to be said. Althought he was great for us this season, I dont think he would be physically up to it in the premier. There is a big difference between the defensive line outs of Mons and Kilkenny, compared to any of the top clubs in the country.

In a match programme that interviewed Raf he stated that he joined united because of the way thing were run, it had nothing to do with what was being spouted around on foot.ie and the **** that Connors was spouting at the time.

I havent being talking to Billy lately to see what his plans are for next season as both of us have been busy, but with the performances he put in this season I think he would love to give it one more try with united and win something with us, a dream he would love to come to life Im sure.

Finally, someone said Murphs will have to show us what he got now, whos saying that he'll be staying?

ya i agree about murphy, he wasnt even able to get a game in the first and now he's suddenly offered a full-time contract, unlikely. disappointed bout o'dowd leaving, liked him as a player [and he'll always be welcome in fox's before and after the games]
and what about moran? i know he was own top scorer but he never proved himself, i think. any idea of who tony is hoping to bring in for up front?

Jim Crawford was top of my least admired opposition players when he was with Bohs. He was always looking to start something nasty, leading with elbows, all of that stuff. And now I might have to cheer him on? Oh no!

Still, maybe he's mellowed more in the passing years than I have!

billy dowdy raf nigel and mixie are supposed to be gone. if we dont sign conor gethins the we have probably lost 4 of our best players from last season in billy, goughy, raf and conor. they were all brilliant last season and we will need to bring in big players to replace them
