    50 Live Games Next Season?

From aertel, which also mentions that Paddy McCaul has been retained as head of the league after the changeover-

    McCaul announced that with today's
official merger with the FAI that over
E200,000 of a deficit will be assumed
by the FAI while prize money for the
new 2007 season will increase to
    E900,000 euro.

It is also planned there will be 50
live games on Irish national television
    next season.

    That's a lot of games!

Ah yes but how many will be actual League games? Don't forget the FAI is also negotiating games in the Ford FAI Cup and European ties involving Domestic clubs. However if this is in addition to the Setanta Cup games going to be show, that's a lot of domestic coverage and has to be welcomed.

RTE being RTE, they probably added a number accidentally to create an Aertel style error. I'm reckoning, if they are talking about themselves, the erroneously added figure is the 5!
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

5 league games on RTE would be an increase on this season wouldn't it???

I don't see 50 live games as being much of an increase as had 40-45 live games in the 2006 season. I think no need for any extra live games, be better looking at improving highlights now...

SHELBOURNE players have been told that the signing of the deal to sell Tolka Park is only weeks away - thus securing the players' wages - but the club's Chief Executive Ollie Byrne refused to confirm this yesterday.

Ossie Kilkenny, the Chairman of the Irish Sports Council, is the main man in the consortium buying Tolka, and advanced funds to help the club over their difficulties in the past two seasons. The advances come off the price when the sale goes through.

One of the conditions is that Shelbourne have to be re-located before the developers move in. Morton Stadium is the preferred option, but it is not up to UEFA licensing standards. So, even if the sale of Tolka goes through soon, Shels won't be moving next season.

As League champions, Shelbourne won over €500,000 - €225,000 from the FAI, €260,000 from UEFA and a minimum of €30,000 from the Setanta Cup - but already two of their out of contract players, Ollie Cahill and Stuart Byrne, have signed for Drogheda United, and manager Pat Fenlon has moved to Derry City. Ollie Byrne said that no approaches had been made for any other player.

Eircom League clubs will, for the first time, be competing for a prize fund of over €1m next year, between the League and the FAI Cup.

RTE is doubling its output of live eircom League games from five to 10, and continuing live coverage of the semi-finals and final of the FAI Cup.

The TV audience peaked at over 200,000 for last Sunday's Cup final, down on last year's Cork-Drogheda final, but Derry viewers aren't included, as the figures relate to the Rep of Ireland.

Live games impress sponsors. What needs to happen is a far more co-ordinated tv schedule. No point having 3 games in a row, then nothing for 3 weeks, then a game on a Saturday, then nothing for 3 weeks.

here here my arse. In no way did I say there should be 2 live games a week. The quality is not there. One a week is more than enough. I just want it on the same time every week

Yeah i've heard a little story saying there will virtually be a live match on nearly every week from next season going forward. Hopefully they have the sense to spread the matches oput a little more even though.

I think that, where possible, all games should be played on the same night and kick off at the same time. That way people know when there's a game on, without having to search through Aertel.
    We need consistency!

For all games or for all TV games? Actually I'd probably be in favour for both, although I think the live game should be away from a Friday night, as must effect audience that it clashes with most games?

All games on Saturday night bar one live game on a Friday night would be my preferred option but if its the other way round I'd be OK with it. Live game should be separate.

Either 8pm Friday or Saturday, but probably lean towards Friday, but I'd agree with the live game being seperate.

Live games are all well and good but a proper highlights package showing ALL premier games is needed for every monday night at a decent time. For an example check out French, German and Dutch football on Setanta.

When this was mentioned to the FAI they fudged it by saying that they "were in contact with tv companies". Blah blah

I think Monday night is too late, it's three days after most of the games are played. Sunday evening 9:00 or 10:00 would be much better.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

You're going head to head with the Sunday game then.
Monday is ok but it should be on around 2200 not 2325 or whenever suits TV3.

And that clashes with Torchwood too.

An irish channel is never going to do a proper highlights package. Farr too much hard work.

screw them!they have had their their way for too long.I remember when the Heinekan rugby final was on with Munster, a GAA manager was bitching about his game time being changed as it clashed with the final. Its high tide the FAI grew a set and stood up to them!
