    MICK’S GOOSE NOT COOKED
Monaghan United FC are pleased to announce that Mick Cooke will be staying on as Senior manager for the upcoming season. Mr Cooke will be assisted by Tomas Heffernan.

The approach to the Senior squad is very different this year with much more emphasis on the locally based players who have been coming through the ranks of the U21’s in the past few years. There are also some players from the catchment area of Cavan, Fermanagh, Armagh and Tyrone. Players such as Cian Mackey (Cavan), Kalid Hussein (Cavan) Shane McGeown (Armagh) and Michael Kerr (Fermanagh) featured in the Senior team last year and there are other talented players from these areas also hoping to play for Monaghan United.

United have been working towards this point for many years and it is finally coming to fruition now that many of the players who have come up through the Youth system are ready for the step up. It has always been the aim of the Juvenile section to feed into the U21’s and then the senior team and it is wonderful to see this starting to happen on a larger scale.

Mick Cooke has always seen the potential of the club to be based locally and last season had used 11 players from the area on his squads regularly.

    DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL POLICY
Monaghan United FC, in a bold move, designed to take the Club to a higher level, have established the position of Director of Football Policy. This position will involve the control and co-ordination of the Club’s football policies by the new Director from Senior football through U21, Ladies, Juvenile and Mini Leagues. The aim in making this appointment is to ensure that all teams at the Club are moving forward in line with the Club goals. This will also ensure that they are all properly resourced and supported in all aspects of their activity and that a coordinated coaching structure is implemented right through the Club.

The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of John Heffernan to this position. John has extensive experience and a deep interest in the football development and has been associated with Monaghan United for almost 20 years.

His role will involve close coordination with the Senior Team Manager, Mick Cooke and it is hoped this combination will bring greater success on the pitch. He will also combine this responsibility with the management of the U21 team.

    CLUB COACH
As Monaghan United move into even more professional era, they show a further commitment to the development of football in the area by appointing Tomas Heffernan as Club Coach. Tomas will not only have responsibility for the Senior Team and Under 21’s but he will also be available to assist the Ladies, Juvenile and Credit Union Mini Leagues Coaches at any time.

Despite his youth, Tomas is a highly qualified coach and is in the process of attaining his UEFA B coaching badge. He has had many years experience in running Football Camps and is delighted to take on this full time job at Monaghan United FC.

    JUVENILE JOTTINGS
Monaghan United Under 13’s had a comfortable 5 – 0 win over Seatown in Bellew Park on Saturday last. United had the upper hand in the early exchanges but hesitancy and poor control ensured Seatown stayed in the hunt. Monaghan broke the deadlock on the 16th minute when James Clarke found the net from a James McAllister corner. Colin Clerkin made it 2 – 0 in the 26th minute when he rounded the keeper after some good defensive work from Cian Byrne and Dylan McMahon.

Monaghan upped the tempo in the second half and on the 16th minute James Clarke put a delightful pass through to Colin Clerkin to shoot high into the Seatown net. Colin returned the compliment in the 20th minute with a brilliant pass from the halfway line to James who made no mistake from 18 yards. Cian Byrne made it 5 – 0 in the 27th minute when he coolly volleyed from the edge of the box to score his first goal for the club. Overall it was a satisfactory performance from a team still struggling to play their best football.

Team: James Allister, Dylan McMahon, Paul McConkey, Cian Byrne, Andy Fallon, Seadh Deeney, Conor Moynagh, Colin Clerkin, Donal Courtney, James Clarke, James McAllister, Niall Greenan, Elliot Maguire, Shane Larkin, Shane Hannon, Myles Dwyer.
