McAteer extends olive branch to Keane

    rte site
Jason McAteer has urged Roy Keane to forget old arguments and return to the Republic of Ireland international set-up. McAteer said: "I am a big fan of Roy Keane - he is a world-class player and we are going to benefit from having him. After all that has gone on between me and Roy, I do actually like Roy. What happened is part and parcel of football."

"I am not going to walk away and say I hate Roy Keane for what happened because I don't. At the end of 90 minutes you shake each other's hand and get on with it," added the Sunderland star.

McAteer and Keane had a high profile bust-up which saw the Manchester United captain sent off for elbowing McAteer in their Premiership clash at the Stadium of Light in August. McAteer had previously said he would "rather buy a Bob The Builder CD for my two-year-old son" than buy a copy of Keane's autobiography.

He added: "You can never question Roy's commitment, talent or experience. But he made the decision to walk away from the World Cup. He had his own reasons, and whatever they were, the decision was up to him."

Yeah, it happens in workplaces worldwide, and to these guys a football pitch is their workplace, that people have to tolerate others they don't like. I agree it's good that at least macho pride s***e has been cast aside. Fair play to McAteer, most players are after all too f***in idiotic and pigheaded to make such a gesture. If all parties concerned think it's right that RK returns, then he should.

I just hope that the new manager is as full of fighting talk, and more importantly, that he has the ability to deliver on it!

true, and the unfortunate thing is that we gotta rely on Merrion Square to make sure that he has that ability

Yup. Absolutely f***in sad, isn't it? Matt Groening, Simpsons writer, or the South Park writers couldn't have penned anything so hilariously inept if they tried.

Does it not strike anyone that mcateer is a loser, a joke, and a pure thick feen? And here he is trying to sound intelligent using a few old footie clichees to make people think he has a considered and inciteful opinion!! He's just trying to keep himself in the limelight so people will know about him when sunderland sack him. And here he is trying to mention himeself in the same breath as Roy Keane!! Give me a break Jason!! Sit down and shut up like!
