It was played in Holland so it would have been the Dutch version of Ireland. Oddly enough there was a similar 'Nederland - Noord Ierland' programme for sale. Dunno how much that went for.
The only country that I know that still refers to us as Eire is Spain (pronounced 'Ay-reh'). As for the current home programme, I don't think it's a rip off. A monthly magazine is about that (more if imported). I was dissapointed that this Dutch programme's cover was so plain. Their programmes from that era upto my first Ireland game in 1981 were always colourful with a cartoon player in Orange kit on the cover. They were also free.
Impressed!!! £565 which is much more than I've seen for any Ireland programme - Pre war ones tend to go for upto €220 or £150. It is more than for either the Chelsea - Real Madrid CWC 1971 or Celtic - Inter EC 1967. I would have thought it was worth €120 tops.
This was, need it be added a friendly. It was memorable as a rare 4-1 continental victory and that I remember reading in the Ireland - Holland programme from 1983 by Philip Greene (one of those articles that stick in the mind due as much to its quality as my youth) that it was both Con Martin's final game, and the debut of Liam Whelan, who died at Munich airport less than two years later.
I think what we got here were two blokes with loadsa dosh with this a very important missing link in their collection. Big up to two ebay bruisers. If you are reading this, I salute you.

Is it €5 now? I thought it was €4. Either way, the programme for the Germany -v- Ireland was only €1. Yep that's right €1. Amazing price difference when you compare the 2.
Definitely a postwar record.
It is probably a record for an Irish away game in public auctions. Pre-war aways have changed hands privately for more. The early pre-war homes would also be worth more.
This programme isn't even by any means the rarest of our aways.

You're probably right. Hard to know though. Many of the aways are really rare with no travelling fans in those days.
Hope you (and the mods) don't mind, but I've got a question. For the Spain away game in 1983 in Zaragoza I didn't see Spanish FA programme, just a Real Zaragoza newspaper special for the game and an excellent colour supplement in the local paper (Heraldo de Aragon). However the RFEF were printing programmes just for the press, before and after this game. Was one printed for this game?

The newspaper and the supplement you mention are considered to be the only 2 known issues for that game in 1983. I doubt if there was a press programme. In 1988 in Seville there was no press programme but a press folder incl a teamsheet. No programme for the fans. In 1992 there was a programme free to spanish fans only and an F.A.I. edition on sale to Irish fans.
Apparently Spain issued programmes regularly until the early late 50's/early 60's. They almost certainly didn't issue for any of our 3 games in Seville and Valencia in the 60's. There have been occasional issues in recent years but
no pattern that i know of. Recent Spanish home games have seen a VIP only issue.
The VIP/press only issues are to the best of my knowledge a recent phenomenon. I think it was UEFA who insisted on programmes being published for all Internationals. Some countries only do these for the press and/or VIPS. The first of these for us I'm aware of is Turkey 1991 although
I suspect the programme for the friendly in Izmir in 1990 was the same.
Rare Irish away programmes of the last 25 years include
Israel 84, Norway 88, Turkey 90 & 91, Portugal 95 (VIP only A5 issue), Croatia 98, Andorra 2001, Iran 2001, France (VIP issue) 2004,
Can't see how the mods will mind as programmes are related to Irish football.
I know, just that we're moving away from the subjkect in hand and that maybe this should be in the programme thread of a year or two ago or that this should be kept as PM as this may lead, in theory, to cash changing hands for items far in excess than their original price.

I'd include Macedonia 99 and Israel 85 in that list too of recent years, aswell as the 1976 France game. Another question: Why is there a preiod in the seventies (1968 - 1978) where home programmes are rare, when prior and afterwards they're not that hard to come by?

Have a guy in work who has built a room onto his gaff to display his programmes and sporting memorobilia. AFAIK, he has every All Ireland and irish International rugby and soccer programme available with the exception of one. He also has the black ball from the Denis Taylor World Championship final match in his collection
Just spoke to him there and he reckons that Irish Free State v Italy in 1926 would be the most expensive. First game after spliting from the North - Well over €1K

God, that's some haul. He must be minted if he can buy all that gear? The tickets are becoming ever more popular as well. The aways are always difficult to get as often not many travelled over to them.

There may have been a lower print run for games in dalymount.
Homes from 69-75 are scarce because of the low interest in the team at the time. We had a poor side and crowds were low. Programme printruns were much lower then too. USSR 74 is really scarce apparently because a couple of boxes of programmes got nicked.
Italy 26 if it exists would fetch very good money. However there would be more interest in the homes as some collectors don't do aways.
At least 2 (and probably 3) of Italy 27 exist although none have ever been sold publicly. There is no known programme for Belgium 29 and I reckon this would be the most sought after/dearest. I'd also be in the market if Spain 31 went on offer as my copy has had a chunk eaten by a mouse.
Israel 85 was a double issue with England U21s I think and the dealers got a good few. It is a bit tricky but not that rare. Macedonia 99 was VIP only (as was Yugoslavia 98) but again copies came back to dealers. Turkey 99 and Portugal 2000 were also VIP only but again the dealers got some even if the fans didn't. France 76 was on sale to the fans no problem on the night and we had 2,000 there but now it is very difficult to get as you say. France 73 is actually much harder.
You don't have to be rich to collect either. I paid £6 in 1983 for my Holland 56 programme at a programme fair. Most homes in the last 30 years can be obtained quite cheaply.
What sort of the prices do the 1920s home prgrammes go for Gary? Is Euro 1k a good bench mark price?
