Meanwhile, University College Dublin goalkeeper Darren Quigley will have to wait to find out if he will receive an offer from Hughes.

The 20-year-old was on trial at Falkirk Stadium last week following the end of the Irish league season.

"He did very, very well," said Hughes.

"He is out of contract, but there would a small fee for him and I will be looking at another two lads before making my mind up."

Meanwhile, Hughes expected Jeroen Lambers to be fit for this weekend despite the rib injury that forced the goalkeeper to go off injured after 26 minutes against Aberdeen on Saturday.

What Falkirk consider to be small would be very small.

He's talking it down the same as we're talking it up.

Bohs forum says today's Metro says Bohs are looking to make a bid. Other random rumours that Derry want him and that we'd be looking for Matt Gregg (Bohs reserve) to replace Quigley.

Media reports of quotes directly from him would suggest he's off to Falkirk though their manager said he'd check a few other options first. There's no way Derry could afford Quigley, but Bohs on the other hand could. I'd hate to see him there. I'd say for his own international prospect he'd want to move to Britain.

Matt Gregg is crap if we sign him we'll be relegated!

As regards the small fee, once we get a percentage add on of any future transfer fees I would not mind.

Gregg is a very good shot stopper, that's about it though. He hasn't played regular football since he left us about 4/5 seasons ago, well maybe 1 season but that's about it. In saying that though, there are defo worse keepers in the eL than him.

Bohs linked with Brian Murphy, a keeper released by Man City. Seems they're in for whoever's going rather than Quigley in particular. Which suits me, as I'd hate to see Daz go to another eL team.

Daz is now gone on trial to newly-promoted Vecindario, bottom of the Spanish Second Division, based in Las Palmas. Gary Dicker's gone to Doncaster Rovers, middle of the English Second (Third) Division, based in Doncaster. I assume Gary's fuming...

Why? What price have UCD put on him?

Dunno. Hopefully E100k. Maybe a bit of a stretch to say there's "no way" Derry would afford him, but I would hope that any transfer fee wuold well eclipse our record in recent years of E20k for Cawley to Shels as Cawley had no Irish caps and Quigley has 5 U-21 caps and a B cap, and has been with us longer. Suppose it's up to yourselves if you can afford that.

Stockport rival Derry in Quigley chase

    January 5, 2007

Coca-Cola League Two side Stockport County have joined the race for UCD’s Republic of Ireland under-21 international goalkeeper Darren Quigley.

Quigley is all set to leave the Students, with clubs at home and abroad interested in his services.

He spent time on trial with Scottish Premier League side Falkirk, while Derry – the 2006 eircom League runners-up and winners of both FAI and League Cups – lead the chase at home as they seek a replacement for David Forde, who joined Cardiff City last month.

But Stockport manager Jim Gannon, himself a former Shelbourne teammate of new Derry boss Pat Fenlon, could try to lure the 20-year-old netminder to Edgeley Park, where he spent time on trial in November.

Didn't know Stockport were as low as League 2. It's not exactly the best place for Darren to exhibit his talents.

Where would Derry have the cash to sign Quigley?

Looks like Quigley won't be moving to Falkirk after all
