Smiths crisps were owned by Tayto at one point. Tayto are no longer m/f in the Republic as far as I know . There is a plant in the wee North churning them out. The company that revived Perri Crisps in the 1990's as far as I am aware are the brains behind Hunky Dory.

Everything else on the Irish market is foreign owned including Walkers,Pringles, Doritos etc.
Pringles may be made here under licence , not 100% sure about that.
The Northern Tayto and Southern Tayto are two entirely different companies. They made a "gentleman's agreement" in the 1950s that neither would sell in the other's market. The Northern Tayto is based in Tandragee, Co Armagh. They have gone from strength lately having bought over all Golden Wonder's crisp making factories in England. Not too sure about the Southern one - I think C&C own them.

You're right. Northern Tayto (formed about 10 years after southern Tayto) are now making all of Tesco's own brand crisps, as well as Pringles Minis (the rest of Pringles are made in Belgium, I think).

No comparison between north and south, southern all the way. The northern Tayto are good for their variety of flavours though. I love the pickled onion and the spring onion ones.

C&C do own southern Tatyo, as well as King.

On Perri Pub Crisps, there's still a pub in Belfast selling them. Great they are too.

Anyone have an opinion on the new Ready Salted southern Tatyo? Just ok, imo, a bit too salty perhaps.

And if we're going to be talking about corn snacks, it has to be pickled onion Meanies. Perfection.

Can't agree with that, always found the Southern ones a bit lack lustre. Northern Cheese and Onion all the way!!
