Ashtown Villa beat Dundalk and Derry two rounds in a row one year. Back when both would've been top four teams

Pats (55 years) and Cork (22 years) are the only club not to have been knocked out by non league opposition.

St Francis by a margin in recent times anyway. UNlikely to be achieved again.

IN terms of a one off match, Ashtown Villa beating the treble winning Derry City team managed by Jim McLaughlin which basically ended his Derry career.

    *Cough*

Kildare also. And various incarnations of Cork football were knocked out by non-league sides back in the day (Fordsons in '37 for one, I think)

How do you beat Dundalk and Derry and then lose to Kilkenny?!

St Francis beat league teams all the way to the '91 final I think - Newcastlewest, Bohs, Kilkenny (?)

They actually beat Cobh in the quarter final in what I think may have been Keanes last match before leaving for Notts Forest. Then they accounted for bohs 1-0 in the semi if i remember correctly. An unbelievable achievement probably unique for anywhere in Europe at the time!

Pats beating the cup holders Shamrock in 1948 must be the best performance.

Man, that is some club. What a fine cup tradition they have - new contenders for the title "Cup Specialists"...

Skerries Town beat Monaghan Utd 1:0 in 2003 before losing to Bohes in the 3rd Round

Great result for the Intermediate club
Its easy to shout abuse at the ref - how would you like it if he did it back?

    don't think so lads!!

i am happy to report that Galway United defeated the cup specialists Shamrock Rovers in the 1991 Final with a cracking late late Johnny Glen goal!

Although we did face non-league St. James Gate in the Semi Final in Tolka and won 3-1 if memory serves me correctly.

Doh! Wouldn't mind, but I was at it and all!

Any Cup after '84 doesn't count anyway.

Shamrock Rovers made the final in 1922 as a non-league side, and only lost to double-winners St James's Gate 1-0 after a replay. So the Hoops were the first giant-killers!
Mind you, non-league Alton United from Belfast went and won the FAI Cup a couple of years later.

For years I kept the newspaper clipping describing Dalkey's defeat of Limerick in the FAI cup, some time in the 1970s

Didn't one of the Blanch/Clonsilla clubs get a cup run a few years back? St. Mochtas maybe?
