This time next week I'll be...

Flying to Trondheim, Norway, then taking a train to Roros for this:

    MUSH!

Scroll down to "Tourplan Mushing Survival" which is the one we're doing.

I'm going to the north of Sweden in two weeks, absolutely dreading it. Why anyone would want to visit these climates is beyond me.

Well it seemed like a good idea when we booked it back in June. I have been wondering about the sanity of the idea lately though. It has given me a cast Iron excuse to grow a beard without the missus giving out though.

You'll be disapointed to hear that there is no whipping involved.
Plus I'm at a loss to see what this has to do with politics.

    nothing.

is there not? no i am actually glad as I was doing the ace-ventura type thing where he goes "funny it didn't seem soar when you were doing it to the horse"

sounds actually like great craic, though if you are sitting on a sleigh ( is that the right term ) for 6 - 7 hours a day you will have a soar arse and it could get boring! Can you race the other people and how fast do they go?

My girlfriend is from Luleå in the north of Sweden and temperatures there can go down to -30C during the christmas period. It's not as bad as it sounds. A thick pair of socks, long-johns, heavy coat, a good pair of gloves and some sort of headwear are all you need.

Sounds like a good holiday is in store for you. Wouldn't mine a holiday like that myself.

You stand on them. When you reach difficult terrain such as steep hills you get off and push to help the dogs. I'd imagine I'll be doing a fair amount of falling off too.

We've been told to expect -20 to -25. Roros wouldn't be as far north as Lulea (how do you do the circle over the A?)

I'm using a Swedish keyboard - I can do this ä and this ö as well.

I honestly don't think you'll have much trouble coping with those temperatures with your winter gear on. However I've never been in that part of Norway so I don't know how windy it gets there. There's rarely a heavy breeze in Luleå so that makes the temperature easier to cope with.

I hate the cold. I hate having to wear extra clothes because of the cold. It sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls.

Sounds like a good holiday is in store for you.
It's not a holiday if you're going for four days, almost half of which will be spent travelling. Through airports six times. With airport "security".

I hate airport "security". I hate having to take off my shoes because one demented person wasn't spotted by lax security several years ago. I hate having to deal with underpaid knuckle-draggers who implement stupid policies because it's their "job". And I hate the cold. Did I mention I hate the cold? Hate it.

    You writting a Socialist Manifesto?

I'll be in Norway week after next too but in the slighly more refined Oslo area for work. I'll keep an eye out for anyone with one of these just in case. From my experience Norwegian love the snow & i think have unofficial holidays at end of winter for the last days of snow.

I'd like it to be nice & cold but dry when i'm there as anything beats irish rain.
