By attracting some of the 3-5,000 Derry fans who are going to the final who don't regualrly go to the Brandywell.
Well then why are we trying to attract them? Agree. It SHOULD have been used as a marketing tool. If you define national as Irish Republic, then yes you are correct. However the local NI and English papers, which dominate the market it Derry (like it or not) gave infinitely more coverage to our European run.
You can't kill something that has been dead for a long time. There are a lot of defendants in the death of EL football, approximately 4 million at last count.
It may have been misguided but it wasn't misinformed.
Well we agree on that then.
My point was that games against Waterford and Bray aren't going to attract them into the eircom League. If something like the cup final gets them in, then perhaps they may get into the habit of going and that's when you'll see the casual fan at the lesser games. At least in an ideal world.
Fair point. My post was clumsily phrased. However, given that the vast majority of clubs are in the Irish Republic this is an ideal opportunity to capitalise on the publicity down here, which is at it's peak for the season.
Already dead???? I don't think so. Perhaps the game on this island isn't in the healthiest of shape but to write it off like that is being a bit pessimistic. If you really believe that, why do you bother going to the games?
Here's what I said as a reminderThat doesn't equate to "a preference for ONLY regulars to turn up for cup finals" and has absolutely nothing to do with "elitism".Originally Posted by ME

back on topic
14,000 tickets sold in TOTAL by Thursday night
that too me is a healthy sales
definitely pick up a lot on the day as that is the Irish mentality - this crowd could very well exceed expectations now
agree 100% with One Red Army
the FAI cup final bears no correlation between league games - its an "event" and the success rate in converting the event junkies into becoming league goers is poor - not because it hasnt been attempted - its just event junkies by their nature arent interested in the week in week out brand of match going - for them its all about the "one off" big occassion
its no co incidence that millionaire left wing socialist long haired dude Mick Wallace opened his second fancy pants Italian Restaurant in the People's Free Republic of Inchicore
new hotel development on the way too
Read it and weep Derry!
Some Ennis Saints will be at the game![]()
Theres a prize for bringing the most fans you know
slk will even be at the game if all goes to plan!![]()
The ball is round and has many surprises.
According to the FAI website derry are brining down 10,000 fans tomorrow

So 14,000 or a lot more than that at the game would not be a surprise if that is the case.
Good luck Derry tomorrow. Great supporters, well run club, sorry Pats, but I have to support my northern cousins in this one.
2002 Cup final, Dlk v Bohs, at least two busloads of derry fans pulled into Tolka to support us, they played Limerick in the Lge cup final first or 2nd leg the prev night, a fantastic gesture.
Where will next seasons final be played?
Croker?![]()
If/when Tallaght is ever completed I think it's to be done in phases like Athlone. I don't think it'll be in any state for a cup final for some years. I think Tolka (should Shels still be in it) and Turners Cross will be the only semi-fit stadiums for a cup final next season and maybe Dalymount at a stretch.
RDS would be my bet. It's supposed to be done up to a 15,000 seater for next year.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
