Why is there no team being proposed for Meath?
Given the population of Cavan is increasing that might be an option!
Some silly country people here, if this new A league takes off, where do you think all the home grown players that progress tru the EL will come from?
Who gives a **** if its dominated by Dublin clubs like Crumlin, Cherry orchard etc:
Will it not be better for El and irish football these players have a higher standard to play in week in week out?
last season Crumlin Utd sent 19 players to England from 4 different teams, the rest of the players either play LSL or AUL or nothing (actually pats got O Connor) if this A league provides El clubs with players who are good enough does it matter that they are from Dublin?

Always look on the bright side of life
Shels will become Fingal FC and will have the new club as a feeder. The Southside will be represented by Rovers in Tallaght and the west will have Bohs. You will then have Drogheda, Dundalk, Monaghan, Sligo, Harps, Derry, Galway, Limerick, Cork, Waterford and eventually Mick Wallaces Wexford all with feeder teams in the lower tier. Who'll make the final cut I don't know but when I expressed my scepticism of the FAI to run the EL properly I was told they would (in no uncertain terms).
Well there's a bit of history attached to Fingal County Council and their interest in the EL.
They were the last sponsors of Home Farm( immediately post the Home Farm Everton era) before they morphed into Dublin City. So that gives you and idea of a) the level of sponsorship which would be available.
Fingal FC ( or as has been posted above, Shelbourne's new identity) would be a much smaller scale operation than any of the so called Bigger Dublin Clubs.

I believe the Meath and District League were approached with a view to either putting a team representing the League or a new club ala Kildare County into the EL based in Navan some years ago.

My editor wants me to do a piece on this. (I write for the Community Voice, local free paper for the Dublin 15 area) Our local SF councillor has come out against the proposal on the grounds that many local clubs have no facilities at all and that this is just an expensive county-branding exercise using money that would be better used at grass-roots level. Have to say, I'm inclined to agree.
Anybody with a quotable view, preferably though not necessarily from the Dublin 15 area, can they pm me?

I don't like the idea of new clubs. They have no tradition, unless they are formed by a merger of already existing clubs.

a bit off track but heard a rumour that shels will be the anchor tenant in abbotstown could this be possible
I wish i did not know then what I dont know now
There are already more than enough Dublin teams Irish football. This is one reason for our low attendences. Compare it to Manchester for example. About the same population, with only 2 clubs.
That comparison is pointless as the context is totally different.
The City of Manchester (containing 1 professional team) has less than 1% of the population of England. Even Greater Manchester (with 8 professional sides) only contains around 5% of the population.
Dublin City by itself accounts for significantly more than 10% of the population of the country. Include County Dublin, and it rises to more than 25% (and that's before you even add in nearby areas like Kildare, Wicklow, etc).
Sure there's a lot of Dublin sides in the league, but then there's a lot more people in Dublin (and the surrounds) than anywhere else in the country. Having so many Dublin sides is just a consequence of that.
