Big Hargy for us. He isnt great on the ball but by jesus he'll battle and tackle for yee! Hargy's gonna get ya!!
When I say cult figure's I'm talking about players who are not very good or simply average, but who you love all the same for various reasons.
Mine has to be David Lee at Monaghan United, or 'Leeza' as we like to call him. He's not great, he's not pretty but by God he tries.
Big Hargy for us. He isnt great on the ball but by jesus he'll battle and tackle for yee! Hargy's gonna get ya!!
Micko used to be at UCD. I imagine he's cultivating that status at Galway now.
We don't really have a player like that right now. Alan Mahon gets some stick for having never scored a league goal (in hundreds of games) while Tony McDonnell has legendary status for simply sticking with the club this long.

Closest we have to that is Mark Rutherford. OK, Sparky still has pace, but he has no sense of balance and his idea of close control is being in the same half of the pitch as the ball, but if he could only avoid tripping himself up, he'd run and run like a very gangly Duracell bunny.
Revenge for 2002
Of Mark Rutherford at shels, we use to say it you opened the gates at the end of teh pitch, he'd run out and keep running till he tripped. He use to get shouldered and be sent 9 miles the other way. He has gotten stronger since his days in Shels though. He was a good aul player!!!

Gerry Carr is at Rovers he was never greatm but we all loved him!!! i wonder why...*cough* 94 Cup
Paul McTeirnan, i doubt anybody has ever pulled on a Rovers shirt with as much passion and heart as Paul... We have a song about him, any kid that gets a name on their jersey, gets '10, McTiernan'...Fans love him
Pairc Moran-Even when Athlone we still gave him a standing ovation when he was taken off...
Raf Creatro was close to the same staus, i believe he will play for the Rvrs again, he was at the Derry semi supporting us, its where he'd want to be i think... The wee man will become a cult hero... In 50 yrs time, il sit at home and tell the grandchildren, 'Jayas, i once saw a 4 foot man out jump every 6ft player in the country'
Wesley Charles- I dont know why the ****...but we all liked him!!!
Before my time id say, Eddie Annad, Willy McStay, Fagan, Harry McLouglan and of course Dixie Dean to name a few
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
gareth gorman....useless as a player and hated by the fans...when he became assistant manager i took it on myself to change it with a tri colour a spray paint can and my shaky hand......i honestly think people are warming to him now
dick brush.....legend....actually he is good but the reserve keeper...total cult hero for the travelling support...if he doesnt wave to us pre game whats the point in even going
Gareth Farrelly will forever be remembered as a... oh, sorry, it said "cult".

Stephen O'Flynn - He's just mental

The Whyte brothers John and Derek. Two tough as hell warriors who bled for the cause. Were known to hand back their wages after particularly bad results. Derek was a surprisingly good ball playing centre-half in addition to his rather more physical gifts and John was the archetypal midfield enforcer though he converted to centre back in his later years and filled in a left-full on occasion too.
Two guys who were probably disliked at other clubs but there's been a real hole in our club since their retirement.
100% commitment. They are missed.
The ball is round and has many surprises.
Bryan Tosh!...now there was a runner...
I'd have to say Mark Hutchinson - I never really rated him, but he was massively popular with the Rovers fans.
"Even if the wind stops to blow
Even if the sea ceases to flow
Even if the sun ceases to rise
The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning star glittering in the sky."
Trevor Scanlon.
As in 'Another fantastic burst of slow from Trevor Scanlon'.
Limited football ability but a big heart and 100% commitment.
