I put the guy from Longford in the poll since he's actually an established manager at the same level. If they have any sense, they'll pick someone who has had relative success at this level rather than someone like the French guy who has coached a third rate team in a lesser league.
However, since the positive reports on the team's performance in Galway have surfaced I wondered did they play so well and so hard because Rob MacDonald prepared them very well or because they were happy to be rid of him? If it is the former, maybe someone should ask "The Farmer" to come back. Anyone know how the players feel about MacDonald?
Alan Matthews is a part time manager with Longford. He is a regional director for a financial institution and won't be throwing that up. Nice guy but strictly a long ball coach. Paddy Quinn will get the job.
Matthews is a bank manager in Dublin. Also works with TV3 on some programme. Can't see him re-locating to Sligo if the board want that?
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
Pascal Vaudequin was never called anything except Paddy Quinn when he was at Derry City.
roy coyle what this space
was he the succesful glentoran manager?
Jaysus, I don't think Coyle would be too bad of an appointment tbh. Would much prefer him over Vaudequin or Matthews.

Renewing the Crazy Gang connection. Plus his folks are from Tubbercurry - Raf'd be captain.![]()
"Even if the wind stops to blow
Even if the sea ceases to flow
Even if the sun ceases to rise
The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning star glittering in the sky."
It's a full two page spread in today's sun about him wanting the job.
In fairness, Phelan's recent coaching record isn't exactly encouraging. Otago United finished bottom of the New Zealand Football Championships.
Finished the season with a league record 8-0 loss, to add to three 5-1s and a 5-0.
He'd be motivated if nothing else.![]()

Phelan in contention for Sligo post – report
March 15, 2007
Former Republic of Ireland defender Terry Phelan is a shock candidate for the vacant manager’s position at eircom League Premier Division side Sligo Rovers, according to a Thursday morning newspaper report.
Phelan won more than 40 caps for Ireland during his career, and played for Jack Charlton’s side at the World Cup finals in the USA in 1994.
The Mancunian, who turns 40 on Friday, has moved into coaching in recent years, with spells at American side Charleston Battery and Otago United in New Zealand.
But he is keen on a move to Sligo, where he would hope to follow Lawrie Sanchez and Steve Cotterill in making an impression before going on to greater things elsewhere.
He told the Irish Sun: “It’s always been an ambition of mine to go to Sligo. It’s my hometown club – my mother’s hometown club – and I love the area.
“Other managers have shown that doing well at Sligo can be a springboard. People like Steve Cotterill, who started at Sligo and is a very highly-rated manager in England.”
Found this on a messageboard.............

.....He later returned to Ireland to sign for Derry City F.C.. The club kept his signing secret as a surprise for the fans planning to boost their support at a decisive match by announcing his name in the starting line-up over the club's PA system. However, soon after Phelan's arrival and yet to have this appearance under his belt he was pushing to get out the door. Allegedly, Phelan had thought that Derry was closer to Dublin than it actually was. The club agreed to relieve him of his contractual duties under the legal concept of mistake. Both parties agreed to keep this highly embarrassing incident hush-hush.
