    Promotion/Relegation

    Is there any update on the promotion relegation fiassco? I hear now that another part of the critera for next year is that clubs can only spend 65% of their income on players wages. It should have a big effect on the league, a very good effect for Cobh because of the income they get from the bar!
    The first Prem team that springs to mind is UCD, where does their income come from? What is classed as income? Do donations from directors count? another plus for Cobh if they don't as they are the only comittee run club in the league.
    Anyone got any answers??????

    The 65% wages for clubs will only be enforced from the start of the season 2008

    wages can be no more than 65% of total income (Gate money, sponorship, Tv money etc)

    The problem is I think the 65% is going to be calculated using the total income of clubs for the season ( income figures of clubs in 2007, 65% of this figure will max wages for 2008)

    if clubs break this rule, will we see clubs loosing points and fines or what will the punishment be

    There is no promotion or relegation. The league is disbanded at the end of this season and an entirely new one formed, with the premier being filled by applications based on IAG presentations and footballing records over 5 years.

    As for the 65% wage cap issue, maybe it's been changed but the original FAI document says-
    Introduce wage controls - Spending to a maximum of 65% of turnover on players’ wages and costs to be monitored and enforced in Club Licensing 07;

    It's a continual source of amazement to me that people don't know this. Small clarification: the IAG has to award points based on set criteria like attendence, sustainability, etc.

    The wage cap will just open up another route of corruption and will change nothing with some clubs.

    €500 for a player through the books with another €300 in his hand. There is plenty of it going on as it is and very difficult to prove.

    UCD is run by a committee. We also get most of our income from the same source as every other clubs - off-field activities.

    We're also a members club run by our executive committee. Must have been a misquote - the only eircom league club in Cobh still run by a committee.

    So are sligo rovers - well, the people in the town anyways - in fact Rovers are a community based registered co-operative run by a management committee elected at the AGM.

    I don't think there are any other clubs that are formal co-ops- Dundalk's folded some months ago when the club went into private hands.

    Harps are still a co-op. There are about 400 shareholders holding around 500 shares.
