    Protest at FAI International Awards

I found this on the Srfc Ultras forum:

Sorry for starting a new thread on this issue but this needs to be highlighted. If everyone feels as strong as they do about the way Delaney and Co are bullying the eircom League clubs/managers/players would enough people be interested in staging a massive protest at the FAI International Awards night when it comes up? It would get maximum publicity and show these little Hitlers up for what they are.

I for one would be very interested in this we must stand up to the Fai!!!

Well that would be a start. Way too many people prostitute themselves for a couple of tickets to watch Championship players playing for the FAI.

If fans, journalists, eL clubs etc let the FAI know that senior domestic football is more important (amd more successful this year) than their anachronistic national team it might wake up the blazers.

While I agree with WeAreRovers over the Ireland tickets, the FAI have tried and publicly failed to take them back already, so I don't see them risking the same thing again.

Are the awards open to the public?

We should bring North Korean flags to the San Marino game unless the decisions are reversed.

Does anyone know the tune to their national anthem?

Seems like a good idea to me. Considering the awards will be live on tv, it could make things very uncomfortable for Mr. Delaney and his fascist organisation...

No point doing stunts like this unless there's a noticeable amount of them and the press are made aware of what it's all about. Would be a nice idea though if enouhg people could be persuaded/organised.

Nobody needs to do anything - the title of this thread alone is enough for the Star/Herald/Liveline/Dessie bleedin' Cahill to run the story that "angry Internet fans are defending the honour of their tragic hero Pat Scully by plotting to liberate the Burlington hotel from the tyrannical regime of the FAI. One fan was quoted as saying... "

Might be a bit of a laugh and sure while we're down there we can get rid of Stan and maybe sort John O'Shea out once and for all...

The NLSA have one of their regular meetings with the FAI this afternoon.

One of the topics they are bringing up on behalf of fans is the fines situation. As a first step, would be interesting to wait and see what response that elicits from the FAI.

Should we be organising buses to these awards ??
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

No-one on this thread has suggested that the NLSA would have anything to do with this protest.

No-one has suggested they wouldn't either

There is a fan body there, they had a meeting already arranged with the FAI for this evening, and one of the topics they put on the agenda was the fines and free-speech issue.

It would be completely absurd to not at least hear what response it got from the FAI....

I think that whoever is organising the protest would probably point out that the idea of the protest is that people are completely disgusted by how the FAI/league's "response" to almost everything that has gone on this season has been a complete joke. I don't see how their "response" to their failings changes anything. The damage is done.

What, for example can they say or do to excuse the way in which they've put Shels' (McGuinness) appeal on the long finger in the hope that Shels wouldn't need the points anyway and the whole thing would blow over? If they decide to confront certain things now, it's only because circumstance has forced them to. I can't imagine any amount of bluster they spout to the NLSA over lunch being enough to quell the anger amongst the rest of us, but then I suppose stranger things have happened.

It's not my job to defend the NLSA, but surely a recognised supporter body raising an issue to the FAI has as much validity as 5 or so people trying to make a nuisance of themselves outside a hotel, and undoubtedly being thwarted by security.

Frustration is all very well. Channel it - don't just blurt it out at a random event.

I'm not against any protest, but it would be ridiculous to not see what the FAI had to say for themselves when they were directly challenegd on this issue by a fan's body only yesterday.

Can someone from the NLSA give us some feedback on what was said ? Thanks.

Hope to have an e-mail going out to members today, incidentally. Just needed a bit of careful wording...
