    Any referees on line

John Gill did something very strange with the Teamsheet on Friday Night.About 15 mins before K.O. he changed Philip Hughes to no 14 and put another player in at no 10 therefore placing Hughes on the bench yet when the game started they started Hughes with the no. 14 jersey can he do this.

Maybe the No. 10 shirt was ripped?

Did a sub come on the pitch wearing 10?

Usually the team-sheet has the eleven gaps for starters and then the spaces for the subs so it should have been pretty clear on the sheet (even if using squad numbers) who was starting and who wasn't.

All depends on the formatting of the team-sheet in question.

Correct - team sheets may be changed by a manager up until kick-off with no penalisation to the team.

He has to inform the opposition and referee of such a change.

So Gill was within his rights to do so - and the box of straws will be locked back in the cupboard

Up to what time before the game starts? Seconds or minutes? It sounds a bit dodgy if the other team doesnt have time to react.

It wasnt clutching at straws just checking if there was a rule in relation to it as the only time ive ever seen something like that happen is when Eddie Hickey was knocked out in the warm up and we were only allowed replace him in goal but werent allowed add another sub to the bench.

EL team sheets have no numbers on them for the starting 11 players and subs so it doesn't matter what number is filled in, but team sheets have to be put in approx 30-40 mins before k/o, if it is only a number change I can't see there being a major problem they just have to inform the opposing team, but if lets say in this case Philip Hughes got injured before k/o and was replaced by a sub before k/o the sub cannot be replaced on the team sheet and P Hughes is out of the game.

I have seen copies of the team sheets as I have had to a couple of stints as stand in PA announcer in Belfield. There are no numbers on an EL team sheet they have to be entered by the respective team officials concerned.

This is actually good because some clubs use squad numbers and others don't. They probably have to allow some leeway because players have been injured in the warm up etc.

My mistake. Thought Reiteor meant the actual players could be changed, rather than just the numbers.
