Irish Sky Cards for getting RT�?

I hear that it's possible to get Irish Sky TV channels in the UK with something called a free view card.

Has anyone done this, is it possible, and how much do the cards cost (free view suggests it's free), but im sure there is some catch??

Also if you get a card, does it ever expire ?

Any info would be great.

The only way you can get RTE via $ky is using an irish subscription card. RTE isnt available on the freesat from sky service.

Ok, cheers for that... Im guessing that you can only get an Irish subscription via an Irish address ??

Has anyone in the UK ever done this (got an Irish Card and put it in a UK Sky Box) ??

I understand that I wouldnt be able to get Channel 4 (and I presume E4, film4 etc) or Channel 5 via an Irish subscription. I've a freeview (UK) box anyway so I could pick these up via that and just switch the leads couldn't I ?

Also in terms of the cards, how often do Sky Ireland send them out ?? Is it like the UK Sky (where you seem to get a card every 2 years or so) ?

As far as I know the card must match the box so you must buy both the box and card by subscribing from an Irish address.

How certain am I of this? Not very!

The box and the card must match, however you don't have to buy both from an Irish address. You must subscribe to sky from an Irish address to get the card. This can be matched to any sky box by phoning them. Doing it independently/ with your own equipment means you aren't tied into having it hooked up to the phone line. If calling sky from an non-Irish number, make sure you have caller ID hidden.

I get C4 on an English Freesat card. It cost me around €100, and the card is guaranteed for 2 years. This service is also available for Irish cards anywhere in Europe, which would enable you to get RTE and TG4 for the footie, probablyTV3 as well for eL Weekly. Don't know if I'm allowed to say where I got it, on the forum, so PM me and I'll send you the link if you like.

yes cfdh, if you have Sky in the UK for more than 12 months then the equipment is yours eg box and dish. Tell them you are moving to Ireland and taking the equipment with you giving and Irish add of course. Ask them to forward the sky card to you at your Irish add, get it sent over to you on arrival, and change your payment to via a credit card. Jobs a good un.
