no your reading it wrong. they are saying that they are still confindent in themselves in winning the league and that the result last friday will have no barrings on the IAG side of things. They still believe they have to finish at least in the top 2.

there is 50% going for off the pitch and 50% for on the pitch as we all know. The 50% for on the pitch is broken up into two parts, from 2002-2005 makes up 30% of your point allocation and we are 14th in that, Dundalk are quite a bit behind us. they are either in 18th or 19th. 20% is for this season, so even if dundalk do finish ahead of us this year, we will still be ahead of them overall from the 2002-05 points total. so
I think that if we finish third we still have a very strong chance of getting promoted ahead of dundalk as we will be ahead of them in the on the pitch stats and i'm nearly 100% certain that our off the pitch structure is better than theirs.
that being said it would be a disgrace if they win the first division and dont get promoted

I think (as does everyone else) that we need to win the division to get up. And even then we could be the first club ever to have the chance to defend the first division title next season... How strange would that be! If Galway come second and win the playoff then I think that would be more than enough for you guys. I wouldn't like to be finishing third...
Just to point out- It's not Dundalk you have to finish ahead of (And from what I can tell they're actually pretty good off the pitch at this stage), it's really Bray or Waterford you have to catch (Rovers meanwhile will rank so highly for football that they're as good as promoted), and both will have higher points from football than Galway by some distance (56 points for Bray and 63 points for Waterford according to this, which assumes the league finishes as it is now).
56 points is a lot to try and make up from the remaining 500 (not all of which the clubs have any influence over currently- like points for licensing compliance), especially as Bray have put in a new stand, have a massive catchment area and have always been fairly stable off the pitch.
As for the winners of D1 not getting 'promoted' (next year is actually a completely new league so no one actually gets promoted or relegated)- if they didn't like it they shouldn't have voted for it. At times it's as if no one from Dundalk actually read any of the FAI documents on this, especially John Gill.

And voting against it really would have helped us? I think there was a lot of pressure coming from Merrion Sq. to sign up for it. Galway will need to win the 1st division if they want to be playing i the premiership next season, other than that it will be 1st division football again. To far behind the likes of Bray and UCD on the field points wise, and even if you get great marks for off the field it's to big of a gap to make up.

You have a point that a gun was basically pointed at the club's heads, but the fact that the clubs voted for means that they won't have a leg to stand on if they try to challenge the system at a later date.
However, the administration of the system may be another story- I think this could well end in chaos in December unless it's done right.
And to be honest, with a 76 point gap to Bray even if ye win the division I don't think ye have too much chance either way.

This topic should be deleted and we should be concentrating on our next 4 games .All mention of next season should be left until after 26/11/2006. The talk about this has clouded our whole season and if we dont make it questions will have to be asked .
i think after all the dialogue - with dublin city gone it makes it easier that one gets promoted anyway - dont think it was ever a possibility that no team from div 1 was going to be in the new premier league
as regards a second team thats a different story and it seems like there are plenty of debatable loop holes that a second could theoretically get up - but as ye have said above - waterford and bray are well ahead - so at this stage is it not just academic?

what harm is this thread causing??????this is a relatively public forum for fans of the game to discuss things.we are just chatting about it,like you would ina pub etc,its harmless,how could it be influencing anything or anyone????????most people on this forum do go to the games and concentrate on them then but this is guys just discussing a topic in between games.again i ask you,how does this do harm???????to bar a thread from being discussed until a certain date is stupid and would lessen the credibility of this excellent forum in my opinion.
Do you know how the points will be allocated? Will all clubs be marked out of 500 or will it be done on a sliding scale the way they are doing the on the field stuff?
I think the proposals stated that promtion/relegation would take place(technically), for the sake of awarding points for on the field stuff, and then the league would be disbanded.
AFAIK the difference in points between first, second and third is one point(between each) so it won't make that much of a difference.
