In addition he had just signed a long term contract so I am sure they must have to pay that up. That was only signed about a month ago. Not a good way of running a football club tyhere it seems.
Disappointed. 2 and a half years in to the job and Wednesday are 20 places higher than where he found them. A club with a history of sacking its managers and yet no success follows. They sack Paul Jewell who then leads his next team to promotion to the Premiership.
I had a lot of time for Paul Sturrock and am sad to see him go. Slight plus is that he had Whelan transfer listed so perhaps the new man might keep him.
Is there any managerial talent out there at the moment I wonder? Leeds haven't got anyone yet and I suspect Wednesday will be behind them in the pecking order for the likes of Curbishly etc. Wonder what John Sheridan is doing these days?

In Trap we trust
Isn't Sheridan managing Oldham with a degree of (relative) success?
Absolutely ridiculous sacking IMO. No money and for the first time since he got there had no injury concerns on Weds night with a full squad to choose from. Looks like the experienced players let him down a bagful against Colchester. I heard on the radio on Weds night that a lot of Wednesdayites blamed the players for the performance and 99% were behind the manager. But a result like that would have prompted him to clear out the dead wood as he subsequently proclaimed after the game. Looks like Mr Allen was going to freak out that Sturrock may have wanted to buy players in January and cost him some money. For once Wednesday fans have a realistic outlook on their football and realise that having a manager employed on a long term basis is good for the club. This sacking will put the club back again. The board needed to trust Sturrock and his 5 year plan.
As Irishmen we dilute our sense of nation by depending on the English to bring us our balls
Disappointed to see Sturrock go to be honest, always thought he was good manager who was able to get a lot out of very little. As you said Owlsfan we have a history of sacking managers (I'd love to run over whoever on the board set the Trevor Francis sacking in motion) but they should have taken into account the injuries we've had to our team, and in particular up front this season. Hopefully Whelan being taken off the transfer list will be the silver lining in this story though.
Personally I want an ex-player like one of the two Nigels (Worthington and Pearson), or John Sheridan brought back to manage the club, would love to see Chris Waddle being put on the coaching staff too, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see
Well there's always Brian Kerr available.
Nigel Worthington - why didn't I think of him? I'd put money on it now.

Worthington commented yesterday on how he has a great deal of respect for the club and although t\he has not contacted the club, and they have not contacted him he'd be very interested to talk to the board. Honestly I think he's our man
They approached Burnley to talk to Cotteril but were refused permission![]()
Interesting stat on the Championship this morning. 15 managers have been sacked since the start of last season and the average tenure of a Championship manager is 1 year two months![]()
Fingers crossed Hull, Barnsley and Southend continue to lose. I expect Leeds to pull out of their slump. Butler looked awful for them against Luton.
Anyone see young Irishman Billy Clarke come on for Ipswich and score one and make another? Looked good. Alan Lee also got one as well.

Brace yourself Owlsfan, I heard this morning that none other than Graham Taylor is also being interviewed for the job!!![]()

Do I not like that![]()

Maybe Neil Warnock if he's relieved of his duties at the city's big club?![]()
The ball is round and has many surprises.
I heard on the grapevine it might be Gary McAllister.

I'd say Gary Mac will wind up at Leeds to be honest. Also heard today that Bryan Robson has applied for the job, so so far we have
Alex McLeish
Bryan Robson
Nigel Pearson
Nigel Worthington
Gary Megson
Gary McAllister
Graham Taylor
and
Jim Sheridan
all being touted for the job. Not a bad short list all in all to be honest. I'd be looking at bringing in Worthington or McLeish myself. Decent track records, and good man managers the pair, which is what we need right now

John Sheridan I assume. Doing ok at Oldham but nothing special.
I'd take any of the ex-Wendies other than him (Pearson, Worthington or Megson)
