Super Cup: Shelbourne 1-1 Cork City

Two late goals in Tolka Park produced another draw for Cork City in this year's FAI Super Cup. Anthony Buckley put the visitors ahead with five minutes remaining on the clock, before Richie Foran equalised for Shels three minutes later.

Shelbourne 1-1 Cork City

Richie Foran headed Shelbourne level and ensured they won the Super Cup as the goals came late in the game at Tolka Park.
Anthony Buckley dived low to snatch the lead for City from Alan Carey's cross on 85 minutes.

But Foran got his head to a super cross from Jonathan Minnock to level three minutes later. Both sides hit the post in a lively first half-time. New keeper Gareth Downey twice rescued Shels' with saves from Ollie Cahill and Noel Hartigan before Colin O'Brien cracked a shot off a post on 23 minutes.

Shels, with ex-Derry skipper Peter Hutton making his debut in midfield, gradually got on top. Brian Byrne robbed Conor O'Grady only to see his 20 yarder come back off a post on 38 minutes before Trevor Fitzpatrick dashed a header wide seconds later.

In a dreadfully poor second-half, Downey showed his ability again on 81 minutes with the save of the match from a mark Herrick free-kick.

Lively opening half, plenty of chances on both sides, city using counter attack well. Colin O'brien hit the post with sneaky shot with $hel$ also hitting the post thru Brian Byrne.
Both sides tired a lot in the 2nd half but got a bit more entertaining after Huttons two footed challenge in the middle of the pitch lead to yellows for himself & Coughlan (who attempted a Grome like headbutt!) who would have been sent off if a league match.

City changed to 5-3-2 with the introduction of Deccie half way thru the 2nd half. Super cross & by Carey headed in by Bucks in the last 5mins but then City gave up soft goal to a Foran header.

Both City fullbacks were impressive as per usual, Oliie got a lot of space behind the front 2 when playing 5-3-2 & O'Grady had a god game & if he continues like this i'd expect him to be a regular in the middle of the pitch.

Question: why did Gunther persist with a bench full of oldies & ot give some of our young forwards a run out??? We know what Deccie & Skippy can do surely he needs to access the young guys???
