Agreed - forget about Robbie. He's been covered elsewhere.

The main choice now seems to be between O'Brien and Dunne. The former apparently, didn't see it myself, had a stinker against Villa at the weekend and is forever being slated on Newcastle boards. Dunne now seems to be the better bet, remembering his heroics against Holland etc at home in the last qualifying campaign.

Despite his good form for Ireland, the more I see of O'Brien at Newcastle the more he makes me nervous. Dunne for me at this stage.

while defoe has only scored 1 goal in his last 7 games, robbie has scored 3 in 6 as he didnt play on sat, and has only started 1 or 2 of these games. In form strikers need to be playing....while robbie maybe shouldnt have reacted like that, there is no justification on the planet for not playing him, he's the most inform striker we have at the moment and he didnt get a game, no wonder he's angry, and he's been very patient coming on as sub in a lot of games and when coming on continually finding the back of the net. 15 goals so far with not many starts at all, scary to think if the boy plays a full game every week, he'd be humping defoe's 21. What Jol thinks and what Jol is doing needs to be looked at, his decisions are woeful and as for his tactics, I think Pleatt left his gameplan book behind and Jol found it. Continually playing Atouba, not playing Davis, continually playing Carrick thinking he's Englands answer to a creative midfielder, playing a 433 thinking our midfield is good enough, and dropping your most inform striker and playing the other 3 who cant hit a ****in barn door from 2 yards between them at the moment. This is the oldest argument on this forum, why does it still puzzle people? We don't have any better options up front. There is no one available who could do a better job upfront than Robbie. He's hot and cold but he's the best striker we have. I don't worship the bloke like some here but he's a good player and just needs a proper run of form. End of story, no?

Damien Duff, for the love of God, is not a forward and never has been. Mick McCarthy's worst legacy is that we think Duff is a versatile winger cum striker. He is an attacking midfielder out and out. Putting him upfront is wasting him.

Well said, it's a boring argument. Robbie's a fine player and is the best we have by a considerable margin so why the need to pursue ultimate perfection??

Fair enough, Irelands top marksman and all that....but he was useless against Isreal.

I'm usually one of the first to criticise him, but he was one of our better players against israel.

I'm not his biggest fan, but he and Clinton are the only real striking options we have, Duff has proven again and again that he's better on the left, and Reid has to do a lot more before we start dropping Keane for him.

Robbie Keane's future at Tottenham is in doubt after Spurs confirmed he had been hit with a £10,000 club fine and made to train with the reserves.
Keane was carpeted by boss Martin Jol for his reaction at not being brought on as a substitute against Birmingham.

A Spurs' spokesman told BBC Sport:"We can confirm Robbie was fined, but have no further comment to make."

Keane, 24, has struggled to hold a starting place since the arrivals of Jermain Defoe and Egypt's Mido.

The Irish international has been linked with a move to Premiership rivals Everton.

Keane was signed from Leeds for £7m in August 2002 and made a big impact at White Hart Lane.

But he has been forced to play second fiddle to England striker Defoe, while the capture of Mido and the return of Kanoute has stiffened competition for places at White Hart Lane.

Spurs boss Jol took action after Keane showed dissent towards him as he stormed down the tunnel at Birmingham following his replacement by Mido.

He's gotta move to be honest. I know that Spurs have been playing a rotation system this season and Robbie has been playing his fair share (and scoring well). However I feel that he needs regular first team footy. Just speculating here, but i think he'd be a hit at Everton with Beattie along side him. Reprise the big man, little man role that he did so well with Quinny.

f*ck sake....wat are people on , on here. andy reids main attribute is his running with the ball . when he was at forest he used to sit infront of the defence when the keeper had the ball and he would roll it to reid who would then beat a few men and pick out a pass. i seen him do it 200 times. he is excellant at that

I guess with the Premiership increasingly scouring the world for top players
it will become harder and harder for Irish players to be first choice in
Premiership clubs, especially now so how more foreign managers are managing them.
I actually though Robbie had been playing better lately and that he had
a good game against Israel, but that was more in the midfield.

If he stays he will have to work harder for his place and it might help his
game + he is less likely to get injured if he doesn't so much.

It may bring the best out of him, who knows?

I'd like to see him at Celtic and wouldn't be too shocked at all if it happened. The board have said they'll do "all they can" to sign Bellamy but I see 2 problems there. Firstly Bellamy has never said he'd like to stay yet and secondly, the chances of the current board shelling out £6m plus another £6m on wages for a 3 year deal are pretty slim.

What's the chances on them geting Robbie for £4m-£4.5m to appease the fans?? That would keep us happy

They have to win the league in order to be sure of Champions League football. Otherwise they enter at the third qualifying round, which is where Shelbourne were last year.
You're going to say "but they got knocked out", my reply will be, so too did the team representing the SPL.

Fair enough but we're "almost" guaranteed Champions League football If we don't win the league then we've a damn sight more chance of qualifying through the qualifying round than Shels have (if they reached the 3rd round)
