Not for the first time he scores on his debut. Had a small wager at 10/3 on bet365.com. 1-0 Galaxy

1-0 Robbie, from a Beckham hoofball. Goalkeeper did a Gary Rogers and Keane just let the ball run past and slotted home.

"Keane's preferred left foot"...Time for the mute button. Ha! Then he scores...with his left foot. These Yanks know their ball!

The goal should be available here

Update: Robbie subbed off to a standing ovation after 71 minutes. Not surprising seeing as he only arrived in LA about 36 hours ago.

I'm not sure what Robbie is out to prove scoring goals like that. Just look at the pitiful offside "trap". Just because he can score goals against semi-professionals does not mean he's a world class striker.

First they whinge he can't score goals. Then he scores goals, but the opposition are crap.

It's his job to score goals, so it's not a surprise he's scoring already.

Going center on prime ticket can really cut a defence open.

Beckham was right, he is a great addition to the roster.

How'd David do around the midfield stripe?

He looked best in the redzone I thought.

Pretty rotten defending but hey, the striker still has to have the guile & nerve to finish it off. Not bad for a jet-lagged player.

However, I find this thread consistently depressing that yet another Keane for Ireland seems to create either overzealous defence, or flippant dismissal of the player. God forbid we have a reasoned discussion about whether Keane's club career has been quite as stellar as his International one, or if he ever really matured as a player. No no; much easier to throw around cheap insults and dismissals instead.

From 2 posters though. Very clear that the majority of foot.ie welcomes this move and are pro-Keane.

Uhm, not all of us do though, we're just afraid of getting given off to by the sometimes rabid majority

I think the person who's been subject to most abuse here has been Robbie Keane. I'd welcome a reasoned debate but when posters start off by calling Keane a waster, a money-grabber or various other names (often based on what they've seen in the papers rather than on any evidence) then it becomes very difficult to have a reasoned discussion.

Was away all week so not commented till now. I've always been very pro Keane, I think he was shafted at Liverpool but should have stuck it out when you look at the amount of game time the likes of N'Gogg woulnd up getting after he left. It was the easy option going back to Spurs but I didn't blame him for it although at the time I thought it was a bad move given 'Arry's boner for Defoe, had Defoe not been injured at the time I doubt the move would have happened. That was how it turned out but like I say I wouldn't criticise Robbie for it, he'd seen Defoe off once already and had the belief he could do it again.

But I have to admit I'm disgusted with him over this move, he's far too good for the MLS and could have had another couple of years in the EPL had he reduced his wage demands, this move is all about money. I'd have liked to see him around for another campaign after this one and think he would have been able for it. I'd have loved to see him play another World Cup for us. But I doubt that will happen now, it would actually be an insult to Long if he keeps on playing as well as he is in the EPL and he isn't ahead of Keane in the pecking order come the WC qualifiers. I just don't see playing in MLS being conducive to him retaining the sharpness he'd need to play international football till he's 34 and I think that's a shame. Had this move come in 2 years time I'd have said fair enough but not now. That said, he'll score for fun over there but the standard is awful as can be seen by the defending for his goal last night....
