Good move for Robbie in terms of getting game time, but a bad move in terms of standard and quality of football.
Anthony Stokes is a prime example.

the only way is down. great career robbie tho![]()
You have to laugh when you hear Irish Premier League fans calling the SPL muck! Seems to be a lot of anti Robbie and Anti-McGeady bile too stemming from these "fans". Not sure what the problem is but it really does smack of bitterness.
it is much tho relative to the standard keane is meant to be at. a year ago keane was signed for 20 million, a year later he's out on loan to a team in a small league. more challenge playing for shamrock rovers
The swan song of a great pro for Ireland. Makes me kind of sad.
No Somos muchos pero estamos locos.
Swan song my arse, hes only 29 and will still be our main striker going into the next world cup campaign
Its really not that complicated!!!
Look back at Craig Bellamy's loan deal with Celtic a few years ago and tell me it was the writing on the wall for his career. Robbie won't sign permanently for Celtic and if he gets 10-15 goals in the next 4 months (which he is well capable of) there will be offers from Premier League clubs in England for next season.
I despair of some of the clueless people on this site.

Bellamy is a better all round player than Keane. I hope Keane does well but the writing is on the wall for him that no top team will ever come in for him. It's a good deal for Celtic so why didn't any EPL club avail of it? Sadly no top team will go near him so Celtic is as good as it gets for him. I hope he doesn't go kissing the Celtic badge when he scores as it is a lame thing to do, other players are guilty of this as well btw.
To be fair you did say Bellamy is a better "all round" player so I'll give you some leeway (and Bellamy often plays as a winger rather than as a striker).
However, forwards are judged on goals more than anything else and Robbie's record is far better over the long-term. Over about 10 seasons each, Robbie averages a league goal every 2.7 games but Bellamy only averages one every 3.3 games. Bellamy has only scored 10 goals in a league season once (2005/06) but Robbie has done it in each of the last seven seasons.
The most damning point of all may be that Liverpool signed Robbie to replace Bellamy so they obviously thought he was a better player at that time as well. He's had a poor year but hopefully the next few months will get his confidence back and I expect to see him back in the Premier League next season.

I reckon Robbie will score a hatful of goals and then get a move to a PL club like Wolves.
Always look on the bright side of life
I think it's a good move for Robbie. He just needs to be playing football at this point in his career and a loan move to Celtic allows him the opportunity to get his confidence back.
Not happy with this move, certainly a move backwards imo. The best thing that can come out of it is that he scores a hatful of goals up there (have no doubt he will), will be back full of confidence and he may end up in a move to someone like Everton, Villa etc where he will get the regular football he needs.
I have watched a decent bit of the SPL this season and the standard has definitely dropped up there compared to the other big leagues and this is evident in the performances of Celtic/Rangers in Europe. Its a pity Celtic arent in the Europa L, give RK some european football as well. Not a particularly big Celtic fan but they have been very poor, even with these new signings, its hard to see them closing the 10 point gap.
Hate to say it but think Keane's finally found his level and will end up staying at Celtic beyond the loan period. He'll thrive against poor opposition, get the odd goal in the big matches and become a cult hero for Celtic which he'll enjoy but it won't improve his game at all which is bad for Ireland. Thought he should have moved elsewhere in the Premiership (even if to a 'lesser' club such as Sunderland or West Ham) in order to try and keep challening himself.
Have to say that thought crossed my mind too!! However he seemed moved by the reception he got last night. My worry is the fact that he's no real competition at the club to keep him on his toes. I don't recall Keane ever being the undisputed first choice at any of his clubs. There's always been someone nipping at his heels. That said though, the same could be said for Ireland, and he's come up with the goods for us..
I don't think Keane will ever retire himself from International football while he's still playing. Can't see it.
I hope it works out for him. In a weird way I was against the move til I seen the reception he got last night.
I'm not thrilled about it but we won't see the long-term implications of this move until the end of the season when the deal's up and his future will need to be decided once again.
If he goes up there and does really well, maybe someone in a better league will come in and take him or he'll get a better chance at Spurs.
If he does ok, he'll probably end up at Celtic.
If he's a flop, who knows?
I am glad that Redknapp let him go. I'm sure there are some managers who would hold onto him and insist on keeping him on the bench. I think Redknapp did a good thing by giving him the loan move. It's good for both of them, Robbie gets football, Redknapp has one less player to worry about in squad rotation but he'll get to see what Robbie can do.
