Marge: Homer, the plant called. They said if you don't show up tomorrow don't bother showing up on Monday.
    Homer: Woo-hoo. Four-day weekend

lads I have been watching the Premiership on Sky and Listening to Andy Gray etc and I have come to the conclusion that the only cheaters and divers are from pesky foreign land where they are all weird and have straight bananas, how good a good old British guy (sic) like Robbie be a cheat.

    Good one!

Would you not think it took guts to stay, fight for his place, and then play very well in the face of competition?

I watched the game and Robbie was whining as usual. His overall game was good today and he didn't need to be doing that stuff. He hardly gets the calls anyway, why not just shutup and get on with it?

As for the West Ham incident, there was minor contact but Robbie was looking for it in my view. As for a red card? Laughable.

Robbie Keane is a class player. He tries his heart out in an Ireland shirt (probably too much coz he sometimes runs himself out of position) but doesn't get the service.

I think the captaincy thing is overstated. He's captain at Spurs as well and they're on a decent run at the minute. If Dunne wants to lead, then he can still lead. It's just another stick to beat Keane with.

As for his goalscoring record. Have any of the Irish players ever scored that many against quality opposition? Aldridge went 19 games or so before he ever scored and when it came it was a worthless friendly goal gifted by Ray Houghton against Tunisia. Aldridge amassed his goal tally against mainly rubbish teams as well yet he is remembered fondly by most fans.

Knocking Keane, the way some people do, is just pure Irish begrudgery.

No its not. Stop talking nonsense.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

In fairness he classified his remark by saying 'the way some people do'. There are definitely people out there (I highlighted Bennocelt above for example) who give out about him above and beyond what any rational thinking would generate.

    Personally, I love Robbie Keane.

Well, that Israel incident was in the first minute so maybe I'm being overly critical, but I think his constant sniping and hassling refs can negatively influence a referee. Crying wolf and all that.

I think Robbie's great by the way, just pointing out a part of his game that I thought he'd dropped but came back on last night's evidence.

Agree with Barney re-captaincy. Aldridge's only goal against "top" opposition was Mexico I think. Great player too though.

For the last five years, he has been absolutely shocking.

He hasn't produced when we needed him most. He misses in front of goals on a regular basis (this 'doesn't get the service' talk doesn't wash with me). Some people will not hear a bad word said about because he scored a few goals in the world cup but the bottom line is, he has been rubbish and deserves his fair share of criticism like the rest of the team.

Its nothing to do with Irish begrudgery. Which is an overused saying at this stage.

Portugal in 95. They were a good outfit.

He hasn't been shocking. When we lose or don't get the desired result, a lot of people jump on Keane because he's a star player. But he can't do it by himself and he absolutely doesn't get the service the majority of the time. It's difficult for him (or Doyle or any other striker) to have any effect on the game if the rest of the team is not playing well.

I'm not saying Keane doesn't deserve criticism. His miss against Germany was dreadful and he often gets out of position. His on-field whining grates as well.

But I draw the line at people saying he should be dropped. For who? It's typical of the attitude prevailing in this country at the moment; if we don't get what we want we want a sacrificial lamb whether it solves our problem or not.

Our best players in the last five years have been Given, Dunne and Finnan. That says it all about where we are as a team and to hold Keane responsible is completely missing the point of what the real problems are.

And anyone questioning the fellas commitment needs their head read. Look how much work he gets through in a game, even when he isn't at his best. He turns up for every game regardless of how worthless the game is or if he is carrying a knock or not.

    Fair point.

Even though he is not a Number 9, if you know what that means (ie main striker), his job for Ireland is to score goals and not to be running around like a headless chicken waving his arms around.

I am not anti-Robbie, he was excellent from 1998 to 2002 when his club situation was in turmoil. Since going to Spurs he has been excellent for them and shocking for us.

I, like everyone, would like to see the old Robbie back again, THAT'S ALL.
