Cork City defender Declan Daly is set to make his return from injury in next Friday’s big clash with Shelbourne at Tolka Park.
Murphy’s ever-increasing injury list has forced City manager Liam Murphy to play midfielder Alan Bennett in the centre of defence, with limited results.
City have fallen to successive defeats to St Patrick’s Athletic and Longford Town in the past week, conceding seven goals in the process, and watching Bohemians carve open a five-point gap at the summit of the First Division table.
The defender has not been available for selection all season, and Murphy will be keen to have him back in contention for a place to fill the gaps in his stretched defence.
Daly was one of the three overage players permitted when Cork’s under-21s beat local rivals Cobh Ramblers 4-1 at Bishopstown on Sunday afternoon, and is expected to make the senior squad for City’s make-or-break clash with defending champions Shels, where defeat for either would represent a further devastating blow to their hopes of wresting the Premier Division initiative away from the Gypsies.
