    Philip Hughes

Would he have solved our problems scoring goals this season? 20 goals in the First Division would indicate that he would have gotten a fair few in the Premier more than likely. I don't really remember too much about him when he was at UCD- how did he get on?

Don't remind me. He was a great player as far as I'm concerned. He was good in the air (for a fairly small fella), decent pace, decent control and a cool enough finisher. On top of that he seemed to be a tireless worked who harried defenders and chased any cause. I was very p'd off that we released him. I think CTID told me he had attitude problems or something. I can't say for sure how he'd have done in the Premier as practically all his time except for a small while at Dub City was in the First. But he's got a good track record down there.

He'd hardly come back after being released the first time.

It's hard to compare scoring rates in the First and Premier, just look at Willie Doyle. He'd still have been very useful this season though, he linked well with the midfield as I remember.

Hes a fantastic player would score goals at any level.
Would have loved to see him at Rovers
Think he had a conflict with work commitments when at UCD
Will play in the premier again soon enough even if Dundalk dont get promotion

One of the great white hopes at Pats. Put on a bit of weight and never reached the heights he should have

Someone told me his attitude was the reason UCD never tried to keep him. It makes no sense to me. I think his attitude on the pitch (addmitedly I've only seen him in 10 games for UCD) is brilliant and that he works ceaselessly.

Dodge, players don't make the cut at the big clubs sometimes and end up at the likes of UCD and work their way back into the top end of things eventually. I have no idea how the hell Conor Kenna ended up heading from UCD to Shelbourne. But for injury he'd be an U-21 international like Dicker and Quigley.

Don't get me wrong I'm still a fan of Hughes, just saying that he hasn't reached the heights I thought he would.

In a roundabout way he just might. I'd be very interested to see if he can cut the mustard in the Premier.

Banging them in against Monaghan or Kilkenny is a totally different story to trying to score against Derry or Shels. I don't think any comparison can be made. Our forwards even scored when we were playing Div 1 oppossition in the cup or last years league. THat sez it all if you ask me.

Scored three in 12 for us, incidentally. Actually one of his worst scoring records, I think. Does he hold the most goals in a season record for about half the First Division at this stage? Kilkenny, Kildare, Dundalk (?), Monaghan, Dublin City...?

Ilovejam, can you tell us at this early stage whether we can expect some departures of key players in the summer or some stability?

Batman played very well for UCD. Perhaps the "attitude problem" was a euphemism for wanting more money than our club was willing to pay.
Nevertheless, as the only club that has NEVER failed to pay the players on time, currently in the EL, that is still something to be proud of.
