whoa, cool, do they do the full 20 or so mins? it's only a matter of time before some bands mine the rest of can's catalogue for all their prescient tunes. halleluwah is gonna be next if it hasn't been covered already! great band, holger is one of my favorite bass players and jaki leibzeit is a machine on the drums.

Did. They are sadly no more, early to mid 90s only, probably the best lost band ever, but that's another thread.
And no, it's about 6 or 7 minutes long only, on their Sackful of Silver album. In The Spanish Cave is easily their best if you ever come across it.
I'm not too well up on my Can, must admit, but always meant to check them out as they always sounded like a band I'd love. Will do that now then!

i will have look round for these boys, they have good taste in a cover tune, that's for sure. the original yoo doo right is pretty raw, it's from an early album with american malcom mooney yelling hoarsely over the majority of the groove. you can lose yourself in it but at other times the wheels grind a bit. 7 mins is probably very appropriate edit length. if yer looking for Can, best place might be their 2 disk anthology 1968-1993.. if you do downloads, then check out the aforementioned song 'halleluwah' with damo suzuki fronting them - tribal, trance-inducing, multi-dubbed drum psychrock of the first order. some Can is noisy, avant-garde, 'experimental,' whatever the hell that is, but they were wayyyyyyy ahead of a lot of rock music in what they were doing. compatriots faust and amon duul II highly recommended as well.

    Stann,
I had Babes in Toyland on tape too, but I picked it up for a couple of quid last week. Bruise Violet opens it, and is still as raw as when I heard it first.

Ken, Radiodread is the ok computer album. Better than the original, if you ask me!

    Cheers, noby, that's the one.
Ta for that too, Ken. TWR's singer Guy Kyser certainly has the raw growl for the song anyway. Am awaiting my first Can with 'bated breath!

it's similar to milk of human kindness but with the ghost of kevin shields smearing the whole thing with great echoey globs of guitar goo Milk might be a better album but the the peaks on up in flames are ... peakier. what's Start Breaking My Heart like??

    Can - Can Anthology 1968-1993*

SBMH is less accessible than Milk, more straightforward Electronica but again I would say its peaks are above the peaks of Milk. Good soundtrack for commuting I find.

Yeah he died alright. Thought it was last year though. One for Wiki I think. Anyone got the Martin Scorsese Blues DVD's? Excellent stuff.

Edit: According to Wiki he died March 6th this year.

I'm pretty sure it was the end of last year that Ali Farke died, not 100% on that though. The album Radio Mali is very good though, highly recommended. Its recordings he did between 1970 and 1972 that were broadcast live on Radio Mali, so its very stripped down (which is a good thing) and you can really hear how good his voice and guitar playing were
