To be fair, I think he was replying to this post.

Kenny is gone back to Sheffield. He's out of the game tomorrow!
The point being made is that Devine is better than what's left.
Kenny and Devine were being compared above...

And for the record, Devine isn't the best keeper in the league

    Spot on

If I was Stan Id definitly call him up, fair enough hes 33 but thats a grand age for a goalkeeper

Darren Quigley only has three clean sheets less than Devine with one game more played and seeing a lot more action towards his goal.

Devine got best keeper award in the eL last year.

I don't understand how Quigley made the U21s but maybe he was in better form then.

Its hard enough to justify eL players as internationls without selecting someone without european experience - this is what sets the top eL sides apart from their lower english equivalent.

Surely Quigley would be somewhere in Stan's mind considering he has played for the u21s and having played well by all accounts.

Ridiculous comment from the man claiming players were picked on who they played for rather than ability

The eL keeper clean sheet table reads something like:

    Mick Devine 16
    Dan Connor 14
    Darren Quigley 12
    David Forde 10
    John O'Hara 9

Take a guess which one of those keepers would be under the most pressure. The only other eL keeper eligible for the U-21s who catches the eye is Barry Murphy from Shamrock Rovers. Pete, you're one of the people who would give out about us playing English club reserve players. What other Irish U-21 keepers do you know apart from Doyle?

    Devine quite clearly is!
Most clean sheets and only 11 goals against us in the league.
    The facts speak for themselves.

There's more to goalkeeping than "clean sheets". I'd hate to have any of you guys picking the keeper, based on the obs. I've read on this thread. Bottom line is we're at the bottom line regarding a keeper for tonight's game. Hurry up and get better, Shay! (Bet he really is sick to the stomach this week if he wasn't before!)

Oh yeah that makes sense, just because he plays in the first div - through choice, not ability means Superman Devine is "miles" better than him

For someone with so many posts I am surprised by your childish attitude

Why don't you just go and miss the point completely!

Murphy plays in an inferior league and isn't tested to any great level.
Wasn't he between the sticks on the relegation team last season?

Devine is regarded by most observers as the best keeper in the League because of his all round ability. He's played in Europe for more seasons than Murphy has been playing senior football.
