something like 12000 i think....
...in the Showgrounds for a Sligo Rovers match? Any ideas??
something like 12000 i think....
The last replay against Cobh Ramblers in the Showgrounds in 1983, around the 13000 mark.
cheers lads... hard to believe 13,000 in there now!!
What would ye expect for the Derry game? 6 or 7 maybe?
between 4,500-5,500
we should be getting 5000 for this one,if it gets enough exposure in the media and plenty of advertisment around the town.
I reckon the capacity as RT says for the Derry game will be limited to 6000, yeah would squeeze another few in though, but with the health and safety aspect this will not happen.

Nice one I knew the crowds were massive in Cork but never realised how much.
Longford played a "home" shield final match against Derry back in the eighties place was packed well over 10,000 there.
63.00
How many attended the Celtic game in 94? one of the largest crowds I ever seen there.
it all depends how much the media promote the Derry game id say
How many Derry fans were at the Showgrounds when we played in the 80's in the Shield final? I was very young but remember standing nearly on the pitch as there was that many at it!
I was at the two home games against Cobh. It's a long time ago and I was fairly small at the time, but I remember the ground seeming as full as you could possibly get it for the first one, and then somehow having even more the second time. I'll never forget the roar when Rutherford equalised (from a Mickey Ferry cross?).
"Even if the wind stops to blow
Even if the sea ceases to flow
Even if the sun ceases to rise
The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning star glittering in the sky."
Unfortunately I am old enuff to remember going to the Showgrounds in the title winning season and it was as packed for the last six home games of that season as i remember the ramblers semi finals (no scientific proof or evidence) - but the best crack was in the papers the next day it would have 6,500 or 5,500 as the official figure but there would have being nearly double the figure in reality- i presume this was for tax, vat and insurance savings (not to mention the odd inuedo about people dipping into the biscuit tins on the turnstiles!)
Also - if you get a chance to see 'SHOOT' magazine for the summer of '78 it is the only time that you will see Sligo Rovers mentioned in the same sentence as the great WCup winning argentinian team of '78. We have a full team picture near their picture in the centrefold - a collectors item for any Red's supporter and one of my most treasured pieces of memorabilia.

says the total capacity is 5000,but heard that they are selling 6000 tickets for the Derry match.
