    Stephen Ireland

According to Man City's official site, Stephen Ireland is heading back to Manchester for treatment on his hamstring. Nothing on thr FAI site to confirm this yet.
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

Not his fault, he is still on the bench on a Saturday.

Did he pick up his hamstring injury from sleeping on the plane back from Cyprus?

I think Ireland is one of the few really bright spots, he looks like a kid with a lot of ability and hopefully he'll develop into the top class midfielder we need.

According to Staunton, he woke up yesterday with tightness, following the journey home.

    I thought they flew?

Maybe Stephen Ireland has been psychologically damaged by Saturday? He's young, not used to this kind of assault from a loyal fan base? Just a thought like...

Lads sitting on a plane after a match the night before, is always going to be a risk in relation to muscle injuries. Especially the hamstring. Does not suprise me at all after a 5 hour flight.

Exactly, players facing a 3/4 hour flight home and bright spark cancels the warm down session so they can have a team meeting.

Why wasn't there a team meeting straight after the game??

Yes, you've guessed it, cos muppetman wasn't allowed near the dressing room after throwing his rattle out of his pram in Stuttgart.

    Good luck to Stephen Ireland.

No blame attached. Partnering him with a limited left-winger in central midfield away from home was always going to make it tough for him. He didn't play well but hopefully he'll have better days ahead of him.

Of course it does, a fine perfomance when he came on for his debut and a bright start and a goal in his 2nd appearance before fading alond with all the experianced heads in the team. Some would argue him and McGeady were let down by the experianced players.

    Shocking stuff indeed.

Jesus, what football have you being watching recently?

As a central midfielder, its paramount that you have the ability to control games, always be available for the ball, have a good range of passing, and have a great degree of consistancy. At this moment in time, Stephen Ireland is unable to hold down a regular place within what can only be described as a poor Manchester City side. If you believe that he is what constitutes and international footballer, then I am very worried for the future of our national side!

Didn't see the game so I can't comment on how good or otherwise Stephen Ireland was but it wouldn't have been a warm-down session if it was the day after the match ... any warm-down would have been immediately after the game!

Oh right, I forgot that Kilbane, O'Shea etc have all of the above attributes

Poor in your opinion. I think Barton, Dabo, Hamann, Sinclair and Beasley are all decent players. No world beaters but decent none the less and he has time on his side.

All I'm pointing out is the stupidity of saying a young kid isn't good enough after 2 caps and one goal. At least give him a chance ffs. He's had one start

He's actually gone to hospital with his injury so it looks doubtful.

Stan must've done some serious amounts of bad sh1t in a previous life!!

Stephen Ireland might be a prospect but he is certainly not ready to start yet. He was very poor on Saturday and if anyone says differently then they are deluding themselves. He gave the ball away on countless times, he did no defensive work, he lumped pointless balls straight into the opposition goalkeepers hands and looked totally out of his depth. Now im sure he would have looked a better player if he had a holding midfielder beside him instead of that donkey Kilbane but nothing I have seen so far from Ireland suggests that he has what it takes.
