    Micko takes over Wicklow

Great news. Anything can be better then previous attempts. I'm really excited about this now. A great manager, imo.

My wife is from Wicklow and she had no idea that Gah was such a big thing in this country untill she started taking trips to Navan with me when we started going out. I brought her to a few Meath games and she really had no idea what to expect.

Its an unbelievable coup for Wicklow GAA. Assume he doesnt come cheap but if he gets any type of results it will probably be worth it.

The interesting thing would be to know how the Wicklow GAA will measure if it has been successful or not. Any results in NFL or championship will be an improvement on last year but if he can get them into the top two of their division in the NFL and to a Leinster semi-final, that would be real progress.

It will also be interesting to see if Micko can get performances out of very ordinary players and with not a great selection. Currently there are only 4 decent teams in the county (St.Pats, Rathnew, Bray Emmets and Kiltegan), the others are poor enough. In all his previous managerial roles, he had good players to work with.

This will be a new experience for him. Good luck to the man. If he pulls this off, it will probably be his greatest managerial feat.

Winning a couple of games, plus a championship win would be an improvement. I think a big thing O'Dwyer brings, apart from his "expense" bill, is an ability to get players to play with the county. I don't follow GAA much, but I understand Wicklow has the same problems as Longford in getting players to turn out (understandably given the time committments involved with no reward - not too many cushie banking jobs handed out to the weaker counties). I think the chance to work with a manager of his reputation makes the committment worthwhile for players?

Anything can be an approvement on one win from last year. They had Wicklow's record over the past 6 years in the Indo today and we've lost 49 out of 66. Surely he can do better then that.

I'm very excited about this now. A lot of GAA fans that I was talking to today feel it's something to get excited about.

sean mulryan is bank rolling this. so his expenses list isnt a worry, he said he would give them a new sponsorship deal if they approached mick odwyer.

Micko will do well if any improvement on their Championship record is made.
Perhaps an improved League placing would be doable in Year 1.
