    Singh and we're winning

I received an email from a friend in England. It’s from the Guardian Unlimited Football site and thought you should see it.
I don’t know if it’s serious or a wind up.

Following Steven Gerrard's yellow card on Saturday and the continued poxy form of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Stewart Downing, England have been hit by another blow ahead of Wednesday's Euro 2008 showdown in Croatia. Yes, Steve McClaren's plan to bolster the midfield by calling up Leeds and Stockport County reject Harpal Singh has been thrown into chaos after the Bradford-born 25-year-old revealed he's thinking of declaring for India. But Republic of Ireland goofer Steve Staunton may yet convince the Sligo Rovers midfielder to seek Irish nationality as he bids to build a squad capable of competing with the likes of Cyprus and San Marino.
I have scattered my dreams underneath your feet, tread carefully, cos it's my dreams you walk on.

If you decode the wanky language used by the sneering idiots who write for the Guardian's sports department, what the snippet actually says is that Singh is considering declaring for India. The "humour" derives from the inference that he is unlikely to be selected for England.

Are any Dublin City players getting a call up?

Pity they couldn’t expunge the 2 Dublin City fans as well, If I am not mistaking we had the other one on our forum annoying our Hoops over Killester last week.
All that’s left to say on the matter is Good luck to Harpel on his international call Up!! For Engerland & lets not be so begrudging.

Harpel Shouldn't play for England, he should play for India or Ireland!

I'm not bitter about anything (well, anything pertaining specifically to this thread), I'm just puzzled as to why my first post in this thread provoked those silly jibes. I only posted to clarify what the Guardian story was attempting to convey, namely that Singh was considering whether to declare for India. Any jokes at his expense were perpetrated by the Guardian, not me.

India play in light blue, by the way.

Isn't Singh only eligable to play for Ireland when he has lived in the country for 5 years?
