On a serious note, RTE News had a report on it there. First stand and all ancillary facilities to be done for 2021 season with the other three stands in phases, second stand seating 1,700 people and then two end terraces, to be finished for 2023.

This what makes my blood absolutely boil is that nobody knows or will say, at least when Rovers were stopped everyone knew what the cause was here its blamed on everyone and no one so nobody knows who to hold to account.

This explains it a bit and shows the first phase of work.

Mind boggles that they didn't show the whole shebang in the 3D presentation.

Yes - apart from main stand, mostly trees around the pitch. Nice trees, though.

It has been a great week for CGI stadiums in the league, at least scale models are no more.

    Fantastic news all round.

How far would this be from the centre of Galway city ?

I am 100% up for watching games while balanced precariously in a tree and drinking cans.

I think we may have just found the silver bullet that will elevate the league to new (tree lined) heights.

Put together what a 10 team Premier Division could look like in 5 years time from a stadium potential point of view - doesn't look too bad - St. Pats is a long shot - Galway to share with Connacht Rugby but developments at Dalymount / Finn Harps etc it doesn't paint a bad picture.

I hope the project does make it beyond first base/phase, as we all know what tends to happen to stadium plans in Ireland that are to unfurl in stages (Tallaght being the exception).

    Ba-boom !

That Pats proposal died a few months back unfortunately, so is longer than a long shot I'm afraid.

Or DVDs. The advance of technology has sadly rendered them irrelevant too.

Will be interesting (possibly scary) to see in ten years time how many of those actually come to fruition

it's about 30 km, so a half hours drive, but, Galway is just rapidly grinding to an absolute halt with nonstop traffic so probably a bit closer to 45 mins. Athenry's about 10 mins by Train though from Galway Station. The Comer Brother's plan sounds nice but I'll believe it when ground gets broken. Ireland's a great 'ol place for a new Plan. Lot's of talking, little doing, as Harps are finding out.

Coincidentally, this thread is just over ten years old. Highlights of the first page include Harristown and the new Drogheda stadium

not sure to be honest, but it would make sense to do so as part of the overall idea of a center of excellence.

Not necessarily. Council hasn't decided for sure yet and the club haven't given up. Fine Gael councillor Catherine Byrne is unhappy with the approved plan and is making some waves. I'd agree that it's still unlikely, but while there's hope we can cling to it....

Btw, was wondering what the hell the Dundalk one was - just got the joke 😀
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.
