Yep, love Tolka, grew up less than a mile away from it. Too late for a campaign to save it though.Once the Archdiocese and the GAA did a three card trick on the land bank south of the Tolka, the stadiums fate was sealed.Grace Park Road will now continue through what was the Ballybough end across the river to access the new development.Even if the shels fans throw up as many obstacles as they can( and good luck to them) DCC will CPO the remainder of the lease for the stadium for the road and for the promised social housing.

The council will have to get the balance right as you don't want a city in the future with no public amenities. When Tolka gets demolished then Richmond Road is another road in the city but they need housing fast and cant see them not using a site in that part of the city.
The State declared its intention in Project Ireland 2040 of ensuring that 80% of population growth over the next 20yrs takes place outside of Greater Dublin. There is always a degree of disconnect between what governments say they want to do and their actions via short-term decisions, policies and budgets, so it's easy to be cynical about that ambition. Though if they can make some of the proposed infrastructure projects happen in places like Cork then they will have some chance of delivering better population spread/balance.

So all being well, in 5-10yrs time the housing pressure on Dublin will have started to ease. Which could open up opportunities for a Pats project again ?

I don't know anything about this, but it could have just been something as basic as the right people not being involved/around/available prior to now ?

Not forgetting the Shed in the Carlisle Grounds (demolished 2006), also a Belfast Truss Roof.

I have a nice pic, but it doesn't seem to want to let me post it.

Hard to believe it’s gone that long. I remember watching a few games in it.

Where's Fitzer???? It is a start, and maybe further on than just the group being set up with feasibility studies already done and allegedly architect plans done up previously also or so we were told.

Let's hope it actually happens, and gets built before 2030.

Thats a bit of a coup getting Brendan Ogle in from his work in UNITE. Didnt know hes a Dundalk fan?
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Lifelong fan and his Dad Bobby previously also. Dont often agree with him but if he brings some bite to this committee then great.

To he honest, I think this committee is just window dressing, designed to try and appear as if some meaningful ground development is on the agenda. I don’t expect to see any significant movement on ground development in the short or medium term. I’d love to be proven wrong but decades of no investment in the ground has me very skeptical.

I'd be sceptical like yourself but i think that apart from the FC bunch there's a decent cross section of people and a lot of egos there that could actually drive this on.

It would be great if something came to pass but I'd fear the same. It wouldn't need to be the most expensive project of all time. Something like the stands Larne have put in behind each goal would make a massive improvement. A new main stand would probably cost a bit tbf. I'd imagine it would be quite difficult to do much on the main stand side of the ground without knocking the existing structure?

A renovation of the main stand in Oriel, extending out the sides, and filling in the two ends, and you've got a grand ground.

I'd be minded to agree. You don't need a committee to improve a stadium, & it's not like Dundalk have a tradition of committees for everything either. It feels like that jogging-walk that players do when being subbed off whilst 1 goal up - i.e. an attempt to look like you're in a hurry when you're clearly going as slow as you can possibly get away with.
