Have there been planning delays on Harps' stadium or something? It seems to have taken an awful long time to get not very far.

It was complicated due to ground transfers, etc. Solicitors had to make sure contracts were 100% before everything was signed. Its a matter of sorting the tax man now and the diggers will be starting. Mr.T is prob the best man to explain.

I pity the fool who doesn't make sure their contracts are 100%

No planning delays, just that this is a quite incredibly complex deal with a lot of parties involved. There's FHFC, the Trustees, the county council, various landowners, the developer, the FAI and the department of sport and tourism. The part about actually getting the contracts agreed involved several sets of solicitors and took a long time- but appears to be sorted.

I can't be bothered to go into detail, but the thing about this deal (if my understanding is correct) is that once the contract is formally signed the stadium is as good as built. The developer doesn't get their hands on the prize (Finn Park) until the new stadium and other works are 100% finished and signed off on. So it's in the developers interest to get it done.

What he said more or less.

Full Planning Permission granted almost three years ago, progressing tenders, land deals, department funding and contracts for construction and land transfer since. Nearly, nearly there now.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Looks great, congratulations to those involved. A modern stadium & facilities will help football become a real family day out. I've seen the plans for the Youths Complex and that is what we are aiming for too.

There's only a few bits to be cleared up before work can begin such as the Trustees sorting out their tax status to avoid incurring capital gains tax or something like that and also final approval from the department of sport and tourism. Work may begin before the new season depending on how fast things are sorted. The great thing about the deal in place is that the developer has to deliver the entire stadium and surrounding works before they get the existing Finn Park- so once diggers are on site there is relatively low risk that things can go wrong.

Don't see how Pats could manage that, there's very little space behind the current stand.
