I was out in athlone/Lissywollen today working and was hugely disappointed to realise that only two-thirds maxmum of the seating in ATFC'S new stand is fully sheltered from the elements. Was this known from the start? It's a big let down to go to all that trouble of building what overall looks like a great facility but is in essence not fit for purpose. I presume the shell of a stand in tallaght will be of the same construction if it is ever finished

In fairness, a stand that is two thirds protected from Proboscidean rampages isn't bad going.

It's not like there's that many around the midland anyway.

That was sort of an admission that I'd probably gone too obscure with that joke.

Are we agreed then that Lissywollen is ready for big game?

It definitely looks better than what was there but I thought it was going to be a little better.

Why are the seats green? Is it a paddy power thing?

Or are they from landsdowne road or something?

EDIT: Obvioulsy I wont really know what it's like until I'm there. Could make for a good four sided atmosphere.

So what was Pats total seated capacity for the game last night ?

As temporary(permanent in reality just it'll be demolished soon) fixtures go the stand not bad at all .

With the green seats and all it looks almost identical to the temporary stand Wexford Youths have (or had I think they've replaced it with a smaller one since the last time I was down). Difference being Pats have it on a permanent foundation.

2924 if the numbers are right 1924 (5 more and it would have been ingenious) in main and new one holds 1000.

I tried counting the seats from the photo Danny linked to yesterday, looks like the two mini-blocks at either end are 10 wide x 9 deep. The three main blocks each look 25 wide x 9 deep. Add in a few extra seats in the very back row where they don't have to worry about blocking aisles and you're looking at approx 870 in total.

New TV gantry and interview room (I kid you not) in old stand at Terryland. It will be ready in 2 weeks time

Also, old seats being replaced with shiny new ones - see photo. Fans are taking old ones away as souvenirs.

Are there plans to do any work behind any of the goals? Terryland is fast becoming one of the best grounds in the country, good to see also that the new stand will be shown on the cameras.

Now, theres forward thinking for ya.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
