You'd hardly find somewhat that stupid twice.
Manager: Fergal, have you your boots with ya?
Fergal: Ya, I have them here.
Manager: Ah good stuff, well give them to this man so, he forgot his!

Does peak6 own the land that the training centre is built on?

I could be wrong but I think they own everything but the land area on the actual pitch. From any previous owner arrangement the club owned the buildings and all fixtures and fittings but not the pitch, in theory they will also own the artificial surface if that could be removed.

That garden is the business, I would have walked past it hundreds and hundreds of times, never saw inside, looks to be better than what most pubs would offer.

Quiet enough nationwide on the development of football facilities but in Cobh the four clubs (LOI, Intermediate, Junior and Schoolboys) have come together to build a new training facility, including a brand new floodlit Astro and floodlit pitch. Ramblers underage LoI sides will likely play here going forward. Work started this week and the final funds are now being raised. Any support appreciated in these tough times https://gf.me/u/y2qhh6

Casement work gets government approval: https://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/2020/10...m-ni-minister/

You do have to wonder if it is really needed though.

It's a purely political project that risks creating a major white elephant.

Antrim GAA doesn't need a stadium anywhere near that size, and will continue using the club ground it does now for football (can't recall it's name - but it's being refurbished) for a lot of fixtures, and Loughgiel for Hurling. The GAA has said it will potentiially hold Ulster Finals there but the 34,000 capacity of Casement makes it smaller than Clones, and then you have to factor in that 20% of all gate income goes on VAT in the north. Given what we all know about the GAA, there's no way they're going to happily sell less tickets and pay more tax to the queen to hold games there rather than Clones. So who is going to use the facility ? No doubt the GAA will look to get Garth Brooks and co in there as often as they can to raise money for themselves, so it risks being more of a concert venue than a sporting one. Though its location in the part of the city with the worst transport links (e.g. no rail) makes moving large numbers of people to and form there at the same time a real challenge.

It will also leave Belfast with 3 major stadiums for a city smaller than Bristol, with all 3 stadia rarely operating at full capacity (Ravenhill being the exception). And then you have to factor in that roughly half of Belfast is in Co Down, rather than Antrim, so what would they care about going to watch a different team for ?

The only positive in this is that it should now hasten the release of funding that the northern government has set aside for club football stadia.

Casement is purely a vanity project for the GAA, politicised as they just want a major footprint and presence in Belfast. Public funding should not go to single use facilities, especially the GAA and their general stance on grounds hosting 'Garrison Games'. No problem with American Footbaal so it is prejudice based.

I would tend to agree, with the caveat that they do need to do something with the site, which has become an overgrown eyesore. But a 34K stadium isn't the answer.

But the site is an eyesore because the GAA jumped the gun and shut it down unnecessarily to help push the case for regeneration. It was perfectly viable for Antrim games when they left it (bar maybe a small amount being spent on it). They strategically turned the site into an eyesore to strengthen their own case - and it came back to bite them because it didn't get the easy approval they had hoped it would. They just lazily assumed all the fenians in West Belfast would support a huge stadium on their doorstep unquestioning because it was de GAA.

A nice non-LOI stadium that would be a superb blueprint for most clubs here.

AFC Wimbledon return to Plough Lane in their new 9,000 capacity fan-funded stadium in a few weeks time.

Fans raised £7m to make the project a reality. A very impressive 4,500 seater main stand with a huge function room and bar, shops, and all associated extras. Three semi-permanent stands around the rest of the pitch.

Maybe something for the likes of Peak 6 to have a look at for Oriel Park..

It appears that the costs are more in the region of £30m
Q: How much is it all costing?
A: Approximately £30 million - although not all of this is down to construction. This figure also includes the money we’ve already spent to date. It doesn’t include, however, the financing costs that accrue during construction.

Q: How is the cost broken down?
A: This information is commercially confidential but it includes: the design and construction work performed by Buckingham to deliver the first phase of the stadium; IT; furniture, fixtures and fittings; consultancy fees; a contribution to a controlled parking zone; ramp-up costs for commissioning the new stadium; and a contingency for any unforeseen costs.

It's impressive stadium even if it is outside the means of any club in Ireland without significant Govt support
