Catherine Byrne is a TD, and rightly or wrongly, she doesn't have much clout within FG and I would say will be finished as a TD in the next Dail.
We're really unlucky in DSC that the type of politician that the area needs as the Alternative TD - a Boyd Barrett, Ruane etc, just isn't there with Joan Collins and O'Snodaigh. A Pats stadium isn't on their agenda, whereas Brid Smith has focussed heavily on the other social issues, with some success.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!
Lee Power on WLR FM just before tonight's final home game of the season stated that he is working with Waterford City Council to further add/develop the RSC.
Just wondering what the story is with Oriel Park. I know that before Peak 7 became involved with the club there was money in the bank and plans to develop parts of the ground. I seem to remember Peak 7 saying they had no plans to develop the ground in the short term, which seems a bit odd when you consider how well they are doing on the field and with the revenue they have. Anyway just wondering if there there are any concrete plans for the ground in the long term, what they are, and how Dundalk fans feel about the lack of investment off the field ?
See Bohs fans we can sell our club twice too - Peak6 and Peak7!!!
There are no concrete plans that we know for sure. The YDC is being upgraded for supporter facilities and as 'high perfromance' centre for the team with sports science and video analysis at the centre of that. There fans in the know type stuff on gradual improvements ala temporary stand behind the town goal running to extenstion of the existing of the stand yr 3-5 but there is nothing to say this is true.
Fan are not happy at all with Oriel Park not being factored in to the development of the club. There are many many basic things that can be done that would improve things and are not bank balance breakers - some fans would be happy to see a lick of paint and proper clean and functional toilets at the very minimum and there is no excuse for not doing this.
This is the first close season under Peak6 ownership so we might see things happening. Prior to this we didnt have any of the financial clout of Peak6 for either player signings or any other improvements. So the next 100 days or so are being very carefully watched by Dundalk fans.
There are very good reasons not to do it if you've bought a football club to make money out of European progression.
How will new toilets or a lick of paint help Dundalk reach the group stages again ? Especially when if they did those games wouldn't be played at Oriel Park anyway.
This is the downside of having owners who are in it for the money. New toilets and paint would be small beer to them. But if you've bought a football club to make money, you'll focus your time and resources on the things that will maximise that return. That means players, not paint and bogs. Everything else is a distraction from your game plan.
The basic things could have been done last winter, or during the season just gone. I don't see why see why think there's be a new lick of paint or whatever at Oriel before next season.
I know with ourselves that our supporters club would fundraise to get painting done and other things ie scoreboard. maybe thats the key let the board deal with infrastucture improvements and the supporters club can deal with the rest of improvements.

Harder to get the necessary goodwill to do that when you’ve been taken over by a group of millionaires with no real connection to the club.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

It really is about the small things to bring people into grounds and keep them there.
Top sides are fortunate that probably a lot of people will hop on the bandwagon for a night out but getting the basics right like decent toilets and aesthetics is vital.
I think clubs with a bar have a massive advantage.
Wonder would Cork think of getting in something as minimal as a chip van type bar that would top off what is already a fantastic ground and match day experience.
Bars are critical for income, and I was always surprised Cork didn’t look at building one with the help of the MFA, but I do realise there is limited space in their ground, with most of the stands having same limiations underneath.
Dundalk could have 3 supporters bars up and running next season if their plans to upgrade the YDC go ahead, the owners were talking last month about changing the routine where most fans arrive 10 mins or so before KO to improve their ‘match day experience’ and having one open for use in the YDC would cater for that whole shed side in terms of toliets and better food options, they even talked about pre and post match entertainment.
Would still love to see some spectator remedial work done, the town side of the stand looks dreadful, a lick of paint would change it, and if they won’t spend big money elsewhere, install a damn roof on both sides of the stand, and block off the back of the away area, build proper toilets, it wouldn’t completely fix the problem but it would help things and it wouldn’t cost the earth, neither would a Pats style semi-perm stand behind the town goal, even without a roof.
