I wouldnt be too harsh on the Cypriot fans.
Maybe they mistook the static Irish players for Irish fans.
It was an easy mistake to make on the night.![]()
Players go down with an 'injury' quite often when their defenders are out of position and the other side is counter-attacking ... I didn't see this particular incident (living in the UK) but it is creeping into the game and it is unfortunate because it means that there will always be a certain degree of suspicion even when a player has a genuine injury. Another reason teams don't always kick the ball out is because when the other team 'returns' the ball, they kick it out for a throw in just by the first team's by-line ... if the ref feels the injury is serious he will stop play. Of course, what they could do is do what the rugby lads do and just play on - allow the trainer on but play resumes around them. Players would not go down to waste time then!!

I don't think Stephen even noticed the player down when he played on, so I think it was excusable in that situation..
I think he got a slap in the face from one of the fans, thats not on
One question, how did the Cypriot fans get over that 'trench' around the pitch to get on it????![]()
i think it is stupid - all this fair play ****** puttin the ball out. it should only be the ref's responsibility to stop the game. i'm sick and tired of the ball being put out and nothing at all wrong with players. if the ref feels the game should be stopped for the safety of the injured player he should stop it and restart it with a CONTESTED drop ball.
the cypriots should be punished if their fans attack players by playing rest of their games behind closed doors - although if the only have 1,000 fans it won't make much of a difference!
