As someone said earlier, you can read a lot into Givens comments yesterday.

“In every interview, the financial package has been outlined. If someone has gone for an interview, where the money is mentioned and we push him forward, I can't imagine someone going to the FAI and saying they want 50pc more,”

    ...

“We're doing everything we can to get him as soon as possible.”

With someone like Venables the only issue I could see with him would be wages. Givens doesn't think that's an issue so if they wanted Venables they'd have him by now. They're obviously trying to get someone else.

I got El Tel's autograph when I was a kid growing up in Crumlin. He was with Bobby Tambling and Johnny Giles watching a u17 game in Brickfields off of the Sundrive road. There could not have been more than twenty people watching the game on a freezing cold Sunday morning. Of the three Venables was great. No airs or graces and willing to explain to a group of schoolboys that you had to "gamble to get the goal". No idea what he meant at the time but you can hear a fair few managers using it now.

You don't care much about French league titles? Oh so, what, is the French league on a par with League One with you or something? He spent two years there and won two leagues, as well as getting to a cup final. Not good enough for you though, only English Premiership winning managers need apply?

Liverpool haven't won the league in a very long time, and they probably won't win in any time soon either. They don't have the funds that two or three other clubs have. What he did do there was bring back a winning mentality and bring trophies back into the Liverpool Cabinet, something that was amiss for a good while before he took the job.

The way some people on here throw their nose up to Houllier is stupid. You guys will get on just about anybody's back.

Technical Director? Come on, thats not football managment, and you know that so stop messing
I dont think he is a good coach, end of

slightly off topic, and as a way of light relief, a friend of mine sent me this today

From the Irish Times Planet Football

    Hard act to follow
No more than ourselves Hungary have been searching for a manager for
their senior team after Peter Varhidi's contract ran out following an
unsuccessful Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Istvan Kisteleki, president
of the Hungarian FA, hinted that Varhidi's successor would be a
foreigner, the German Jürgen Kohler among those tipped for the job.

Well, Kisteleki and his colleagues finally made their decision last week
and, much to the stupefaction of the media, the man chosen to succeed
    Varhidi was: eh, Varhidi.

"He was the board's only candidate," said Kisteleki, "he has our trust
and so takes charge again as coach."

Mind you, we shouldn't be giving the FAI ideas.

I just cant understand the thinking behind Brady being mentioned. Any of the others would be okay. (just wait and see with any of them...) but Brady has no managerial experience that is worth talking about. He's like Brian Kerr - good with kids, but that didnt work in Kerrs case. My vote is still Venables because players tend to like him and he has good experience. I think he'd cope better than most with the media.

Paddy Powers, Ladsbroke and Boylesports are laughing their heads off. Meanwhile in the real world William McIntosh "Billy" Davies is being interviewed for the job.

Co Adriaanse has quit his job in Qatar. He's therefore available as of today. HSV are after him and Ajax are supposedly interested as well.

He's 60 now so maybe international management is something he'd like to do.

He has to be at least approached. Wouldn't be surprised if the three stooges haven't heard of him though.

I'm afraid so too, he's outside the British football sphere.

I dont know lads...He fits the current Three stooges patented interview criteria...

    1) He's Unemployed...
    2) Errmmm....
On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"

    And they nearly did.

Co Adriaanse would be a nice appointment ... does he deserve his own thread? Maybe someone could let the three lads know of his availability?

didn't he just up and leave his job at Porto 2 years ago? I'd like to see him get an interview.

Yeah, he did the double at Porto in his first season and then got annoyed with the board. (He's not the first Porto manager that got pis sed off at the board.) He left despite being under contract and had to pay Porto money for the privelage to leave. I guess he really wanted to get out of there.

He's a no-nonsense bullshte-free personality, which of course could pose problems for an organisation like the FAI.
