And they got rid of Venables because?

I wonder if the Italians would have cast a blind eye on Capello if he was working for Italian football, but now he's working for England they're going to nail him! If I was in their shoes I'd wait until it'd cause most damage!

Keegan appointed at Newcastle, Houllier and Deschamps still free to take up the Ireland post.

Chris Coleman has just resigned from Real Sociedad, another possible candidate?

Still reckon El Tel is getting it though.

    How about Steve Coppell?

    Chris Coleman Resigns

as per www.sportinglife.com, Coleman has resigned from Real Sociedad.

A friend of mine met him on a stag night in Galway so at least he has an Irish connection

I wonder why Delaney said Compensation would not be a problem in relation to a question about Houllier. The head of the FFA has already stated that they would not be seeking compensation if Houllier decided to leave for pastures new. The only 2 in the running who might require compo deals to be paid to their clubs are Coppell and McCarthy. It would be a huge surprise at this stage if Venables did not get the job but I still have a hunch that McCarthy might still be in the running.

This may explain why Delaney met the Senior players in Cardiff. May not have been to suss out their opinions on managers in general, but whether the players would be positive to McCarthy returning.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

Givens comments suggest a divisive appointment and most people think that means Venables but it could also be McCarthy. Plus it is not inconceivable that the 3 amigos recommend Venables but the FAI majority refuse to ratify.
Givens comments yesterday "The recommendation to the FAI will be, I think though I won't say 100pc, will be appointed"

Like most posters on here I'm sick of the wait and all the rumours. It's all been said before but there has been so many candidates that people have many different favourites for the job. No mater who is appointed a large section of the media/fans will be disappointed. At this stage I just want a manager that will play players in their right positions and play the best players available regardless of their age and is not afraid to turn the screw when we go a goal up, rather than trying to protect the lead for an hour. I can't help but think that the haphazard way that Stan went about handing caps out to young lads, that were just not ready, that he was fully convinced that he had two years to mess around without consequence. I know he didn't have much of a clue but it would be interesting to compare his team selections if he knew he really only had one campaign to impress.

I think you answered your own question re compensation not a problem for Houllier if the FFA were not going to demand any.
But I didn't read that the FFA would not be seeking compensation I read that they wouldn't stand in his way. I can guess his salary is not that high but it's topped off with a very good and lucrative expense account. His job also allows him nixers as top billing at prestigious seminars all around the world.

Souness is 8/13 for the Scottish job.
Today we lost Keegan tomorrow we may lose Souness.
From such setbacks we will grow stronger.

This is so much fun I hope it goes on for another 12 weeks, it would be great if a few more managers got the sack so they could be linked with the Ireland job.

When the name is finally named 95% of us will be disappointed. Probably.

    Fcuk him so, arrogant idiot.

Anyway, with Keegan taking over at Newcastle that means there's more time to interview Houllier & Deschamps before we appoint Venables.
