I hope the FAI take their time and get it right and not just appoint DOL/ex international to get the media/fans of their back.
you are probably right of course about haing 5 months to find one, and i'm sure the FAI will not want to be paying someone during that period. However i would like a new manager appointed sooner than that for 3 reasons:
    1. To allow them to familarise themselves with the players in the squad and time to assess the merits of them and other potential players.
    2. It may be counter productive with more and more people ruling themselves out of the running, making the job seem way less attractive than it actually is!
    3. I honestly couldn't take 5 whole months of speculation and 'exclusives'.

There'll be a vacancy at Tottenham soon enough and any top managers around will be looking at that or infact any other jobs that come up in the Premiership before they would look at Ireland.

    Martin Jol anyone?

Is under severe pressure at Spurs even more so after last nights results. I think he's a quality coach. Would the FAI approach him should he get the chop from spurs in the weeks to come? What is he on at spurs? €2m a year maybe

He has Spurs third from bottom. He has spent a fortune on players. Better than Stan but his confidence must be rock bottom. Wrong time for him to be considered.

what about charlton after being kicked out of newcastle??? he didnt do too bad. I would take Jol in a second. we are never going to be in the running for any manager who is on the top of his game.

Would anyone like to see aidy boothroyd as manager. I think he is the solution to all our problems. I think he would jump at the chance as well. I really admire the job he has done at Watford. What he has done with those players is beyond belief.

Couldn't agree more. Although Souness is a decent panelist and knows a fair share about the game, that doesn't mean he is or ever was a good manager. He has proven to be extremely poor at man managment, squad selection and tactical aptitude..... Souness is incapable of admitting a mistake, learning from the mistake and moving on.

I especially remember his time at Benfica, bringing in an array of old british has-beens (or never-were's) , Michael Thomas, Steve Harkness, Dean Saunders, Gary Charles and Brian Deane. At an end of the season home game against Boavista he ordered the pitch to be watered, in an attempt to disrupt Boavista's passing style...Benfica lost 0-3, the first goal gifted to the opposition when Paulo Madeira slipped on the sodden surface.

I see Roy Hodgson has entered the Paddy Power charts with a bullit, at 16/1.

Of all those listed on the current betting what about this. Louis van Gaal with David O'leary as assistant/advisor. To me that would be coming closer to a world class management team that was promised before. A recognised world class manager with someone along with him who knows the players.

It will never happen so it's pie in the sky.

Its a complete mystery to me as to how badly Spurs have started this season. Apart from King being out its the same team that finished in the top 6 last year. Berbatov is like a child the way he goes on and Defoe is only staying for the money, I dont think Jol can be blamed for this. Would have him over OLeary in a heartbeat.

He'd retain Robbie Keane as Captain.

    He doesn't rate Andy Reid.

I seriously hope that the FAI are not even considering Souness, the one manager who possibly would even be worse than Stan. He destroyed Liverpool and Newcastle and did nothing of note at Southampton or Blackburn. How is he 5/1?

An experienced manager of international teams. we know we are not going to get the top tier of managers Hiddinck, Scolari, Etc but there are a number of managers who could be available/tempted at the end of this campaign. Hodgson, Troussier, Beenhaker etc.
