For those of you selling your tickets for the game on Wednesday - good riddance and close the door behind you. You can come back again with the Ole Ole brigade if and when the bandwagon starts again.
Playing Eircom League players instead - always comes up when we have a bad result. Was tried once. I think we got stuffed 6 or 7 in Austria in the 1970s.
The national soccer league will never really get hold. The GAA is imbedded in every country parish - soccer will always play second fiddle in this country, expect possibly in the cities. Invest as much as you can I agree but don't expect miracles.
The FAI did not squander "the windfall of the 90s". There was no windfall. Have a look at the books sometime. I got hold of their annual reports which are available. A few million doesn't get you very far.
Dunphy - who cares what he says (n fact we know what he'll say). I thought Aldridge was great. Spoke with passion and from the heart. I will NEVER understand why he wasn't interviewed for the job - did he have some previous falling out with Delaney ?
This is the second time in a row we have been completely outplayed by Cyprus (for those who are singing Kerr's praises). We got away with it last time. This time due to woeful player errors (O'Brien and Kenny) we didn't.
What I can't understand is the organisation at the back that we showed in Germany disappeared overnight. The lack of a decent central midfielder was cruelly exposed. Leaving Ireland on so long.....![]()
O'Shea & O'Brien I thought were the two worst players on the pitch with Kilbane and Ireland not far beind. Keane and Clinton anonymous. McGeady ok but Duff was the only Irishman who stood out and kept going until the end.
The future. Hmmmm, 4 years of Staunton's contract to buy out (800k ? not to mention Robson) - how much will that leave for a decent new manager?
I will be there on Wednesday supporting Ireland. I won't be booing anyone but I hope those in authority will make the right decision which will be obvious I suspect after Wednesday.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
I predict six points against San Marino and possibly four against Wales and quite frankly that's all
Not that I'm a huge supporter of Lee Carsley (although could only improve on the p*ss poor midfield that we had yesterday) but was just reading Staunton's comments at yesterday's press conference on his exclusion:
What sort of reply is that? It just smacks of pig-headedness and no real reasoning."No, because we’re looking forward".
frankly I think they've had their chance."I’m not saying Lee is no longer in my plans but at the moment I am going along with the lads I have. They deserve a chance..."
frankly a kick in the teeth is the least that they deserve."...and it would be a kick in the teeth for those guys if they were not given that opportunity..."
What the hell does that mean? That about sums it all up really, a load of hot air and no substance."They have to take the bull by the horns, take possession of the jersey and then it is up to them."
"...and it's Charlie Chaplin on the wing..."
Well folks if FIFA and UEFA lose their case against the G14 clubs who want compensation for loss of wages when players get injured; the FAI will be forced for economic reasons , to choose EL players as they will be able to afford the compo when the likes of Jason Byrne, Mick Devine and Barry Ryan get injured on international duty. The good news is they won't lose 5-2 to Cyprus.
The squad are not training this morning due to a team meeting. Very ironic given that we never needed a training session so bad. Why can't they do the two? It hardly from fatigue seeing as they did nothing last night!
Are we allowed to call up any new players for Wednesday? Can Carsley be drafted in or is it too late?
Staunton is out of his depth but is a proud man so won't resign. It will take the 800k compo to shift him and its money well spent. If he had any decency he'd tell the FA "I won't take your money".
I never want to see O'Shea and Kilbane in an Irish shirt again. I'm sick of the sight of em - they are wasters. How they receive money every week for 'playing' football astounds me.
1: Stan and Delaney out.
2: Aldridge or Curbishley in.
3: O'Shea, O'Brien and Kilbane told to stay well away from the set up.

You'll NEVER beat the Irish.......you'll just draw with us instead!!!
Wales played some decent football yesterday and were a little unlucky to be on the receiving end of a 5-1 home defeat. I think we'd be lucky to get 2 points off em.

I haven't heard Staunton's interview in full yet. BBC website has it but it's not available to people in ROI. Anyone seen it listed anywhere else?
it's not worth listening to to be honest with you.

Just listened to his Press Conference on the BBC website ... he sounds lost to be honest; I really do feel sorry for him but he must have had some inkling of what the job entailed when he took it on.
have to say I cant believe what happened to the ROI last night, dont worry about it lads keep it going and get behind your team for wed night and Id say you might surprise everyone. Good luck for wed night
According to sport on 2fm it is now an emergency team meeting with a press conference to follow after. Shades of Saipan with an emergency team meeting!
Hard to argue with a lot of what you say except this decision was obvious after the holland game. decision should have been made then. we may still be in this if it had. We effectively took a gamble on our international future which failed miserably. Delaney should resign and an outsider should be brought in to restructure FAI. A businessman for the admin side and a football man for the football side. A lot of the personal comments about staunton leave a bad taste in the mouth. No doubt he thought he could do a job when he accepted the role. the blame lies with the people who appointed a novice rather than staunton.
emergency team meeting? They've probably lossed their passports or one of their BMWs is having teething problems back at home.
