    Qualification for Uefa cup

A bit of confusion about this on other forums.

If Derry win the cup and come top 2 in the league who gets the other Uefa spot-3rd in the league or cup runners up?

When Derry win the Cup and the league, the extra UEFA Cup place would go to the Cup runners-up. If it were to happen that Derry won the Cup but not the league, the extra UEFA Cup place would go to the third place team (I imagine you're hoping this would be Cork City).

AFAIK, there is a UEFA cup place for second in the League. The second UEFA place is the old Cup-Winners Cup place. It goes to the winner of the cup or to the runner-up if the winner has already qualified for European competition.

But the UEFA place that is actually the old CWC-place is supposedly more prestigious (it actually seeded Drogs ahead of Derry this year). So if Derry came 2nd in the league and won the cup, they'd actually take the Cup UEFA Cup place, and the league UEFA Cup place would be passed over to third place.

However, as I said above, if Derry win both, someone still has to be allocated the Cup UEFA Cup place and that would go to the losing finalist, and so the 2nd UEFA Cup place would go to second place in the league and not third.

Correct. The losing Cup finalists only get to play in Europe if the Cup winners complete the double. Otherwise it's league placings that decide who plays in Europe.
